Oh where oh Where has my August gone?

Aug 29, 2010 21:37

Um, its nearly the End of August - and i don't know what has happened to my "quiet relaxing month of no work, where i was going to do a mixture of future project planning, house things, relax and do fun stuff" All that is certain is it has gone, and suddenly everything gets hectic again, and half the things i thought "oh thats an August thing" remain undone. And most of the other half have been done in a rush over the last 5 days, due to me waking up last week and realising that they hadnt been done.

So lets try to work out what happened to August.

Week 1: started with a site visit to Horley to work out logs for WITW, then i think i gave myself most of the week off to relax/recover from July. Started sewing kit for Odyssey
Week 2: Ah, i think i sewed my fingers raw this week, repatching patchwork quilt, making harem trousers and mantles, and then went off to Odyssey.

Odyssey Interlude:
I feel rather stupid for spending a proportion of "week 1" moaning and panicking about this. It was the MOST AWESOME LARP EVENT EVER. The OC/IC divide i was moaning about, was interpreted to the INTENT not the LETTER - safety briefings were given, and it was still possible to check people were OK. The standard of kit/set dressing was superb - THERE WAS AN ACTUAL ARENA WITH RAISED STANDS AND SEATING AND ENTRANCES and an in character restaurant with COMFY FLOOR SEATING AND DRAPES... and each culture was very distinctive. CARTHAAAAAAAAAAGE rocked - an awesome group, and all the "hardcore" people i'd worried about in the Hannon Souk were utterly lovely, especially Will, who was very chivalrous to the only woman war leader in the camp, whilst still being very much a Carthaginian Warlord. The Romans did not massacre us..., in fact we did a good job at killing them (in some cases at least twice), and HECKLING IN THE ARENA was amazing "ALL THE WAY TO ROME" I think its summed up best by "I LOST MY HEART AT ODYSSEY"
To all the crew - you are AWESOME.

Week 3: Managed to stop chanting "ALL THE WAY TO ROME" at some point. Monday was unpacking. Tuesday was prep work for Wed and some WITW bits, Wed was training in London, Thursday paperwork, Fri - wrote first draft of "Champions roll out proposal" and sent to C. Weekend spent chilling with flannelcat, and celebrating luckykaa's birthday

Week 4: Mon - Thursday: Mad panic doing all the work on proposals/ideas/plans that i should have done earlier, in between dog walking and going to the gym so much that my legs hurt. Lots of discussions with C, leading to proposal of world domination almost being complete, found lots of useful research publications and tried to read them far too quickly. Found that the 2 potential trainings for week starting 30th Aug, were both GO. Friday; between prep for the next 3 weeks work, forced flannelcat to listen to lots of Josh Ritter and Steve Earle, and rediscovered how much i love "Outlaw Country" and the music it inspired. (now much country music is utter trite, but Outlaw Country rocks, and i don't care if you dont agree!) Sat, went to Hestmonceaux Medevial Fayre with talismancer, sigb, ghostpaw and Thomas, bought lots of mead, and dragonbreath, and wooden pegs, and green men, and watched archery and jousting and spiraltower being a rooster. The sun shone and it was a glorious day out. Came home and caught up with WITW bookings. Today - trying to complete to do list before things go crazy on Tuesday again...

So things i have NOT done that i should have done:
Updated consultancy website
Networked on Linkedin
Contacted people begging for work
Signed up for first aid ToT
Painted bits of the house
Gardening
"spring" clean of house
sold excess clothes on intermunet
Tax returns
Been a tourist in my own town and seen things that i keep meaning to see

Ah well - none of that can now be touched until after 20th Sept so i am not going to worry about it.

In other news die_fleiderhat - you have given me a Josh Ritter obsession!

Also: erestania is looking for people for the next few IDP camps/cas sims , with the first being cas sim 7th Sept and IDP camp 8th Sept. Pls email her on the firecat email (or message me here if you have no idea what i'm on about) if you are available and interested....
