Godless is a western television miniseries. In the series, set in 1884, a young outlaw on the run from his vengeful mentor winds up in a small New Mexico town populated almost entirely by women. The series received mostly all positive reviews, critics and fans seemed to love it.
This show had graphic violence and truths of the times in which it took place. I cannot imagine how hard existence was for folks who traveled to and homesteaded the west. I'm sure much of the very things portrayed in these episodes took place and some probably even worse. The acting was excellent. The scripts were so believable. I was glad to see Jeff Daniels in a lead role though his character was brutal.
All that being said, although I enjoyed it the series seemed to lack something to drive it over the top and make it great even though it was a western. It was merely good, to me. I had a hard time believing a town at that time would exist with nothing but widows in it. They would have been too vulnerable and nobody would have taken them seriously.
I give this series 3.5 out of 5 stars.
