fiction, because I need to expel creatively...

The radio belted out the sordid drumbeats and slow keyboard strokes that seemed to define this drive, as his tires thumped over the gravel strewn clay road. Darkness seemed to ride the wind and squeeze the lights of his car into narrow cones, barely piercing the gloom he was speeding into. Yet he hardly noticed any of it, background, thoughts of differing natures warring for his already drained attention. There was of course a girl, there was always a girl, and there were thoughts of career, past regrets nuzzling themselves into the mix as well. Slowing he pulled to the spot, easing his car fluidly to the side of the road, already deep in autopilot...how many times had he done this before? One, two hundred? His mind quickly and quietly swallowed up the number, allowing the other festering thoughts room to nag and peck at his conciousness as he stopped the car, and with a sigh of committal, flicked off his headlights...allowing the sea of inky, heavy darkness to wash over him and his car.
A rustle of wind skittered through the treetops as he lowered his window, knowing any moment it would all begin again...just as it always did. In his mind he could almost hear her voice already. In his mind, all thoughts of her were winning. The crunch of gravel outside his car announced that he was no longer alone, even before the soft sultry voice said 'Hello...'
"Good evening."
"So what's a nice guy like you..."
"C'mon, get in, we don't always have to play this inane game, do we?", he cut in, already annoyed at the start of yet another evening of pretend innocence.
"I always thought you liked these little introduction games, my dear boy, " she said as she gracefully eased herself into the passenger seat, "doesn't give you the peace of mind it once did? Tsk. A pity, I do so like to see you smile in spite of yourself."
"Yeah, whatever, it's in the case on the backseat...you want it now, or?"
"Later, yes, drive now."
He sighed under his breath and fired up the car engine again, slowly pulling back onto the road and began to turn the vehicle around. As he did he glanced over at her, and thought to himself how little she changed. The same jet-black hair, softly perfumed, slightly closed sultry green eyes, and the ever-flawlessly painted candy red lips. Flashes of pale white skin showed in spots where tears had formed in her jeans, accented heavily by the black leather jacket she always wore.
"Ah, well, well...can I still get a smile afterall? Thinking about it already are we?" at that she laughed, a full deep seductive laugh that set his mind on fire and caused his aggrevation to rise to match.
"The money? Yes. That and nothing more..."
"Oh, there's always more, I know that mind of yours far better than you think, my dear."
"Of course, your kind always do, don't they?"
"Tsk. Tsk. No need to take offense"
"Whatever," he growled as he reached for the volume and turned the music louder. Louder, but not loud enough to crowd his mind...never loud enough to crowd his mind against her. Damnit. Fortunately he could see thier destination, a house off to the side of the road, it's black-metal gate already opened where others waited. Waited like they always did, for the case in the back of his car and his beautiful seductive employer. Employer? Ha! The thought almost made him bark a laugh out loud, she paid him, and well...but more and more he felt as if somewhere along the line she had paid for him, and that now he was little more than a possesion.
"Ahh, right on time as always...sure you don't want to come with me this time?, " she grinned fully knowing his answer, "of course not, you can deliver it...but to see it's use, that would rattle the very fabric of that well constructed morality of yours, wouldn't it? A shame."
"Are you going to check it?"
"Must I?," she asked playfully, even as she popped the clasps of the black satchel and began inspecting the five vials inside. "Perfect as always, and your payment, you will find already awaits you...care to check it, or do you trust me?"
"Trust?" he spat, "trust, isn't the word I use."
"A pity, perhaps one day...but until then," as she said that she opened one of the vials and slipped her finger deep into it...pulling it out a deep blood-colored red. Slowly, she sucked on her finger, a thoughtful look coming over her face. "Delicious, where did you aquire this one?" she asked, placing it back in the satchel and pulling out another vial.
"A banker from upstate"
"Ooh..excellent! and this one?" she asked repeating the gesture, with an even more pleased look on her face.
"A cop from the 31st."
"Mmmm...and.."
"Look, the other two came from a young college kid and a rabbi, are we done?"
"Of course. I assume the last two will be just as fine..." with that she reached in and grabbed the last of the vials, a smaller one, dipping just her pinky nail into it she quickly sniffed the fine white powder.
"Ooooh...and this? Not from the usual sources is it?"
"No, compliments of the banker...now, are we done for the night?"
"If you wish, sure you don't want to..?"
"No."
"Ah well, until next time, my pet"
With that she gracefully slid out of the vehicle and began walking up the path into the night. After waiting for the midnight gloom to swallow her up, he started up the car and began driving off.
Yet again his thoughts began warring for his attention, at the top of them the one that always haunted him, a simple exclamation that he dare not utter to anyone...after all, who had ever heard or would believe in a vampire with a cocaine habit?
