What are your five favorite comic book adaptations?
1. X2- One of my favorite movies, to be honest. Though I love the other two X-Men movies as well, this one just holds a special place in my heart. I think it did a really good job of depicting the shades of gray in the X-Men's world and ours too. And of course, this was the movie in which I met Pyro, who remains one of my three top favorite fictional characters ever. ♥
2. X-Men- Storm is possibly most annoying in this movie of the three, but the Wolverine and Rogue dynamic is just magical, even if it isn't that true to the comics. A great intro to the X-Men team also, I think, even if the overall plot is a little sketchy.
3. Sin City- Okay, Sin City is more of a graphic novel, but that's fairly close to a comic book, so I'm rolling with it. I'd actually read the Marv story in graphic novel form before I saw the movie, and damn, this movie is loyal to the source. Still beautifully shot and entertaining though. It does get a bit wearisome if you watch it too often (I speak from experience), but I love the raunchy ridiculous stories about these down-and-out characters who mostly aren't great people. My favorite story is Dwight's of course. Clive Owen is so sexy in this movie, though the last little monologue is fucking cheesy as hell. But that's not his fault, it's Frank Miller's (like I said, incredibly loyal to the source). Violent and sexual and awesome. Def. better than the movie adaptation of 300, in my opinion.
4. Spiderman 2- I don't harbor as much love for the Spiderman movies as much as some people for some reason, but this is definitely my favorite of the three. The villain is the most easily related to and complex and I love the reveal with James Franco, even if he has a range of about two expressions. I felt a bit bad for Mary Jane's random guy in this movie, but other than that, pretty ace comic book adaptation. Love the scene in the bank and then later when Peter gets his powers back in the cafe.
5. Iron Man- I'm guessing this is why the question above is being asked. I honestly haven't read many Iron Man comics, but I really did enjoy the movie. I thought the suit was awesome and the plot seemed a bit rusty, but it was definitely accessible to someone who didn't know that much about the comics, ie me. I also thought Rhody and Tony's relationship was very well-executed. I agree with some random person on LJ's review that I read- "How was the Funvee?" probably the best line in the movie. And I've actually changed my mind about Pepper. I think Gwyneth did do a pretty good job with her and though I don't find Tony/Pepper super appealing, I do like that it is a complex relationship that wasn't tied up in a pretty little bow at the end of the movie.
