So i think by now most of you know the main influences and categories my life falls into. I think for this post i'm going to do a general update on each area, just so that when i look back i can say, ah yes that was where i was back then.
So firstly I think relationships:
Liam and I are getting on fantastically, we don't see each other alot, infact we only get to spend Wed and Friday evenings and then Saturdays with each other. I think that makes for quality time when we do see each other. Yes all is good, i don't know how me going away will be but i think we'll manage, we had to get used to not being around each other in the past and i think we'll be fine.
Next up, work:
Just because i'm in work at the moment it's kinda on the brain. Work is crazy busy at the moment, I think it will be that way until the day I leave. I only have four weeks left. Wooo four weeks, the time will fly. Aghhhhhh..... So it's pretty boring in here really, i'm really looking forward to finishing.
Right now onto fun stuff, paddling/kayaking:
I haven't been paddling as much as i'd like to and it's starting to show. I got out on Saturday for the first time in ages and was terrible. I could roll tho and that was good. Although i did have a little moment where my roll failed me and i lost my paddles and then have to be t-rescued. I was almost completely out of breath. Let me tell you the short story
The water was fairly low, perfect for getting freshers used to the weir (and given my lack of paddling me too). The wave in there was quite sticky, it was difficult to get out of the wier once you were in it. So in i went, i was practicing my spins, they actually went quite well. But then I was getting tired and decided to get out. I couldn't, so i paddled down to the wall (which was quite a struggle) where there was a little washy wave, but with the wall further down stream it was making a flippy wave which caused almost everyone to capsize. So over i went too. The water was freezing, I got brain freeze almost instantly. I tried a roll and failed, that was when my paddles slipped out of my hand. So knowing i wouldn't fix them on time I banged on my boat ( the call for a rescue). My head was in agony with the cold and I was quickly running out of breath. I could feel my heart pounding within my chest. I had to do some serious talking to my self not to pull my deck. I knew rescue would come it was just a question of which would happen first, i'd run out of air or i'd be rescued. Luck for me, I felt a boat to my side, I grabbed onto it and got myself upright. I was totally out of breath and cold, but it was good. I was happy with myself for staying in for so long.
So yes i need to get out a lot more, if i hoping to do paddling in New Zealand i'll have to get a lot better.
Mountaineering/Climbing:
Really although i mean to go more regularly I haven't been climbing much at all lately. It's kinda like every three weeks or so. Because of that, i'm totally unfit everytime I go and then give out to myself at my inability to do anything. Again I must get better if i'm going to do climbing on my travels.
I went hiking for the first time since my birthday yesterday. It was great, we attempted to do the Reeks Ridge, which was perhaps a little ambitious on my part. As it turned out the weather was really bad and we had to come down early. It was hailstoning and snowing and windy and cold. Hail in the face is quite painful and joined with a really strong wind is not conducive to walking along a narrow ridge with steep cliffs on either side. We did get up to the top of Carrantoohill thought. We were looking across at some of the ridges we were supposed to be on and could see huge bit whirlwinds lifting snow into the air. It looked cool.
Next weekend should see two more days of hiking. I'm going down to kerry for the UCCMC'c 25 year reunion. It shold be fun.
Travel Plans:
Well these are pretty much all organised. I still need to get two more injections for my vaccinations. I need to sort out a job in New Zealand but other than that i think everything in organised. I can't wait, it will be great fun. i am a little anxious tho, and hope that everything proceeds smoothly. It should do...
I think that's about everything, my driving is coming on well. My test is in four weeks but i think i'll be ok and that i'll pass...
