more hottest 100 shortlistings

I wrote this over the weekend but forgot to post it...

_________

So along with 'Flipside' by Snout and 'Get Off' by the Dandy Warhols, here are some other songs I jotted down on the train from York to London, while contemplating what I might vote for in the Hottest 100 Of All Time...

Boo, there's no youtube video for 'Red Serenade' by the Clouds which made it onto my list without question. Easily a favourite song of all time. I even use the song title as a username.

Instead, here's another awesome track from them: 'Bower of Bliss'. The guitar in this is so sexy. Love it.

It was hard to choose a Fiona Apple song, but I went with 'Paper Bag'. No embedding allowed for this so click here if you want to see the clip. I might have also voted for 'Fast as You Can'.

I was very pleased to see Augie March make it into the top 100 with 'One Crowded Hour'. I really love that song. But I love this one more. It's one of those songs that has meant different things at different times and which is just beautiful. The same goes for many of their other tracks which is why they make it to my top ten.

Next on my list would have to be Supergrass, 'Sun Hits the Sky'. Although this sort of breaks my rule of needing to come from a band or album that I love to death, this song makes it to the list because it never fails to make me feel happy. It's pure pop bliss.

And so is this next song. I'm so pleased there's a clip for this! And I hadn't seen it before! Custard, a 90s band from Brisbane, easily fit onto my list. They made the cut because two of their albums - Wahooti Fandango and Wisenheimer - I still listen to regularly. And yes, they were on my ipod for my overseas adventures so they tick that box. It's hard to choose a favourite because both albums are filled with gold. (And actually I get them mixed up as albums because I had them as a double-set).

Custard's most popular track is probably 'Apartment' and although it's one of my favourites, I decided to go with 'Pack Yr Suitcases'. It's only 2 mins 16 seconds and it's brilliant. <3

Next up, Gomez with 'Love is Better than a Warm Trombone'. Love this track! Could only find a live version of it on the youtubes, but it's not too bad. I recommend getting the album that it's from, if you haven't already: Bring it On. Great album! It features one of their better known singles 'Get Myself Arrested'.

Had I voted, I'd have two songs left. Undecided. Probably something by two of the following: Grates, Queens of the Stone Age, Big Heavy Stuff, You Am I, Emiliana Torrini, Darren Hanlon, Regurgitator, Spiderbait, The Shins, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Ben Folds Five... Who knows?
