I like Regina Spektor.
She's like if there were an alternate universe where instead of the feral Fiona Apple being captured in France at the age of 7 and sent directly to Jon Brion's basement studio/reprogramming center, she'd been allowed to roam free until she stumbled accross the secret love hut of Bright Eyes and Rufus Wainwright, who, for fear of being found out, locked her in the piano room with a stack of Woody Allen films, both of Ethan Hawke's novels, and one of those records where Joni Mitchell conducts the London Philharmonic.
Or if Nelly McKay had been raised by Michelle Shocked and Elton John in a hidden hippie commune in Central Park run by Mr. Rogers. Wait . . . that may have actually happened . . . aww, man this whole thing is kind of coming apart and I didn't even get to say "Piani Difranco" yet.
Anyway, I like Regina Spektor.
