I've never made a Ryden fic rec list before, for various reasons. IDK, I came into the fandom too late, and I thought I'd only read a small fraction of everything that's out there, or I was just too lazy or something, who knows. But this is a really small list of my absolute favourites ever which are probably some of the best fics I've ever read in general.
- Grace by flash_indie - In which Brendon is an actor, and Ryan writes him the script of his career.
Top five fics of all time easily. I want the movie version of this. I want to live in this 'verse. I always think about how this is like if AFYCSO was a novel or a movie. It's like something Palahniuk would write. It's amazing. - in case the scene gets nasty by softlyforgotten & zarah5 - a story about a high school wherein Brendon and Ryan hate each other.
What do I say about this besides it's one of the best things ever? - Romantic Rights by flash_indie
Ryan is eighteen years old, and meets Brendon outside Spencer’s garage at four o’clock on a Friday. Brendon is loud and obnoxious and rude and wonderful and beautiful and all these things that Ryan will never really be able to say. This quote (and the whole thing) just stuck with me forever. - always leaving, but by gigantic
This is the first Ryden fic to ever make me cry, haha. - For Keeps by smallacts - He sees Ryan, and Brendon knows that Ryan would be like one of those t-shirts that's been washed way too many times, so worn-through it's almost translucent, with a few real holes showing through to skin, but soft. Soft and just the perfect fit, clinging to your skin in all the right places.
I cried a whole lot reading this too. - Back to the Place by behindthec & redorchids - Maybe that's what makes life interesting, the collision of endless questions and answers, and those precious moments of triumph when we can match the right ones together. Once upon a time, Panic went to a cabin in the mountains to write an album they never made. One night there, something happened that Ryan tried to forget. Two years later, he still hasn't.
- and I will know you by the shape of your absence by softlyforgotten - Life has a habit of becoming ridiculously reliable when you’re least expecting it. AU.
I cried. Yeah, there's a pattern. - Irrevocably Combined by lilywhitelilith
I reread this literally all the time. - The Florist by flash_indie - The one where Ryan is a florist and Brendon is horribly in love with him.
- Bright Copper Non-Sunsets by diet_absinthe - Hi, I’m Ryan Ross. You have a name that starts with a B and that’s all I know about you. I stare across a room of feebly drunk people and I see you with cocaine in my eyes in my lips on my ears in my brain and I think, BBBBBBBBBB.
Something about this just stayed with me. - We Were Heading For The Sea by softlyforgotten
I can't believe I only read this recently. A perfect post-split fic. - sleeping/dreaming patterns by softlyforgotten - It was raining when Brendon landed back in the states. AU.
- Oh Doctor, Doctor by softlyforgotten - It was just that on his first day in the oncology department of the hospital six years ago, he'd been introduced to Dr Ryan Ross, Head Surgeon, and fallen stupidly and irrevocably in love with him, and that, apparently, was that. (A hospital AU.)
- Common Circuitry Problems by softlyforgotten - "Oh," Brendon breathed. "Your robot has a stutter. Spencer, that's *adorable*."
Pretty sure this is where my love of robot fic started.
