*Sigh*
The library worker's excersion to Nashville is now over and I can still back, relax, and smell the three layers of sunscreen, sweat, and sunscreen covering my body (yes, in that order).
Even though I was a last minute replacement for someone who was actually supposed to go, I had a lot of fun this weekend. We stayed in the Sheraton hotel, which besides its advantage of being right downtown and having expensive looking amenities, has pretty poor service for a hotel. I must say that the Hyatt Regency in Lexington beats it on every level.
We spent a lot of time walking around the city on our trip. From the street, downtown Nashville is really showing its wears and tears. It seems that you don't have to go very far before you see something shady or broken or obviously very poor. There are dots of bright spots though. We visited an art gallery and as soon as we mentioned where we were from, our artist guide's eyes lit up. "Paducah! I've heard all about that place." He pumped us for information about the galleries, hotels, restaurants of our fine village. I don't think we could have gone wrong with this guy. Everything was either "Right on" or "Awesome." I think if I had told him my fetish for murdering small marsupials he would have said something like, "That's righteous, man."
Saturday night was the Bright Eyes Concert. More than his music though, I enjoyed the stage effects. Everyone was dressed in white and the instruments and stage equipment were white and there was a person doing abstract artwork and projecting it onto the stage during the songs. My favorite was the Etch-a-sketch. It was kind of like watching a real time music video.
Sunday we went to Grimey's Music, a used book store, a park, and a store called Pangea that sold overpriced fancy trinkets.
The gustation parts of the trip were my favorite. We had a picnic on Saturday in a park we found while we were lost. We had Thai for dinner in the hotel room (yum!). Sunday we ate leftover picnic food, and then went to the wonderful Panera bread where I was assaulted by broccoli and cheese soup.
Then we drove home and talked about sex. . . . but that's another story.
