Here's something to get your brain churning;

The Newbery Medal, an award for American children's book authors, is named after a British figure while the award for British children's literature, the Carnegie Medal, is named after an American figure.

I always thought one was for writing, and one was for illustrations.

Well, the Caldecott Award is for American illustrators and the Carnegie Medal is for British writing. . .

Interestingly enough, the award for excellence in tap dancing, the Astaire Medal, is named after Gene Kelly.
