The deadline is over, and I've had two decent nights of sleep, and I am being productive. The Big Bang fic is back up and running, as is LiveJournal--well, intermittently--and I'm catching up on the inbox. And this afternoon, I'm going to exercise. It's going to be amazing.

My copy of Shards of Honor is packed away somewhere, but I seem to remember Vorkosigan being basically powerless re: Vorrutyer (I can't even remember if that's the right name). I had gotten the impression that Bothari "taking care of" Elena, even if it meant raping her, was the best he could do to keep her away from the Admiral. However, it's been a while since I read that book...

Yeah, you can make the argument that he wouldn't made things much worse for her if he'd tried to interfere while she was still under Vorrutyer's power. I just think it undermines his decision to save the next one, no matter what the cost, when Elena was still alive and captive at that point. Bloody awful situation all around, of course, but I don't think she ever addressed his silent complicity as fully as she could. I may have to reread Warrior's Apprentice to see if it comes up when they meet Elena again, though.
