There's been a meme going round all my writer friends recently so I thought I would also jump on the bandwagon. Supposedly, it analyses your writing to tell you which famous writer your writing resembles. I thought I'd try it with some of my fanfiction as well as my original fiction to see if there was a difference.
I used the initial part of my
Untitled Doctor Who fic as that's the most recent thing I've written. Amusingly, I got the following result:
I write like
Douglas AdamsI Write Like by Mémoires, Mac journal software. Analyze your writing!
That would be most appropriate, seeing as how Douglas Adams initially wrote for Doctor Who and also as the opening sentence - It was a cold yet peaceful night on Kwannagarr: a small pale blue planet in the vicinity of Betelgeuse, whose name in the local tongue meant 'small pale blue planet in the vicinity of Betelgeuse'. - was written as a direct take-off of his style.
So then I tried the last part of my original fic
Duplicity. And that gave me this:
I write like
Arthur C. ClarkeI Write Like by Mémoires, Mac journal software. Analyze your writing!
I really don't know how to explain that one. It's not sci fi by any means but I presume the analysis goes off structure rather than content. I'm not familiar Arthur C. Clarke's writing so I don't know his style. Both results are notable names, especially for sci fi, but I think out of the two, I'd rather go for Douglas Adams. Much more my kind of thing and I am definitely happy with that comparison.
Aside: I also put in the RHPS fanfic I posted recently out of curiosity. That came out with Chuck Palahniuk. That's possibly a little bit fitting, given the subject, and I have to say it amuses me no end.
