I haven't done a proper update for a while. I've had a lot on because my nan was taken into hospital on Thursday. My nan is never ill and as far as I can remember has never been taken into hospital before. She's not particularly ill, she's up and about and she feels fine, but over the past few months she's collapsed a few times. We first put it down to stress over the anniversary of my
uncle Paul's death, and the doctor thought it was because she wasn't eating properly, but it turned out it was a virus and there's now a lack of sodium in her blood. After having a reaction to the medication the doctor prescribed, they decided to take her into hospital to conduct more tests to check that there isn't anything else wrong. We were hoping that she would be out on time for Christmas, but unfortunately it looks like she'll be in until the new year. Although she feels well and healthy, I'm quite appalled by the conditions in the hospital. The heating system went down at Whiston Hospital on Thursday, it was Saturday morning before they came back on. It was icy, icy cold on Thursday and Friday and I have no idea why it took so long for maintenance to fix the problem. On Friday morning the patients were promised that electric heaters would be brought up to the wards, but it wasn't until 20:00 in the evening that they eventually came and because it was on the opposite end of the ward my nan didn't feel any warmth from it. She was freezing and hasn't had a minute of sleep. But the cold isn't the only thing keeping her awake at night. One of the patients on the ward is very aggressive, and every night has been keeping all the patients awake by shouting and screaming all night. One patient in the ward is absolutely petrified of this lady and has her daughter sleeping with her every night to comfort her. This woman is so aggressive that the police have been called out, and every night she is escorted by security guards around the ward until the morning. I don't know how a patient like this could be left in the ward, surely she should be on T-Block (the mental wing) or something? On Saturday my nan had a fall in the bathroom when getting out the bath (why wasn't she being aided by the nursing staff?) and it was thought that she had broken her wrist, but luckily she hasn't. My nan's been stressing over being in hospital because she feels unprepared for Christmas, she still has presents to wrap and was supposed to be cooking Christmas dinner for some of our family, so she feels guilty but obviously it's not her fault and we've all been helping her out. She is really, really tired and is starting to get confused, mix things up, and say stupid things, but this is due to having no sleep at all. So overall it's not been the best Christmas for my nan and I feel really sad for her.
Through my youth work with the Arts Service I worked with a woman at a drama group a few weeks ago. She was very impressed with my work so invited me to go to an audition to become a freelance Youth Worker for her company, Altru Drama, to assist at after school clubs. The audition was last Wednesday and just involved me joining in with many different drama games and it was a very enjoyable morning. Thursday morning I got a phone call from Lisa and she offered me three after school clubs, but unfortunately two of them clashed with my uni work but I'm still going to be working at one of them. Each after school club only runs for 5-6 weeks, but after finishing at one group there will be opportunities for me to work at more groups for Altru Drama, and my name will be kept on their records. It's a good way to get my face into schools. I also ended up on their Christmas night out on Thursday night, so I must have made an impression!
I was very amused by this picture that
addsimpson sent me:
I had no idea that Pendo was a brand of tissues. I've never seen them before. Now you can blow your nose on a Pendo. I've looked everywhere, but my local stores don't seem to stock them, but I shall definitely be traveling to
addsimpson and
jawida's local store to stock up on a couple of boxes. Only 59p - BARGAIN!!! Although I hoped I was worth a little more than just 59p.
I've seen a lot of Daryl this week, but I wont be seeing him now until Boxing Night. He's going to a family party but getting his dad to drop him off at mine after it. I'm back at my mum's for Christmas, but she wasn't happy that I'm only staying for two nights.
I've been out on Saturday and Sunday night. Saturday night I was out with Daryl and we met up with some of his friends on G-Bar. Daryl was so drunk though and he ended up vomiting everywhere when he got back to mine. He was so delicate all Sunday, but it meant I get to nurse him all day.
Sunday evening I was out with StreetFeet's Rachael and Alan, and some of their friends. It was another awesome night in G-Bar and we danced our little arses off. I vaguely remember bumping into
jawida but I'm not 100% sure because I was really drunk. I shouldn't really be drinking because I'm still on medication, but surely you can't expect me to stay sober over Christmas and New Year? There are pictures from both nights out in my
ScrapBook.
This evening I met up with Sarah, Lindsey, Gareth, Pollitt and Sherlock in The Logwood for more drinking. It was good to catch up with them because I don't see them as often as I should anymore.
It's now 1:45am Christmas morning so I think I should be going to sleep soon otherwise Santa Claus may not come. There are plenty more happenings from the past week or so, but I'm too tired to go on now. I hope you all have a fantastic Christmas!!
