Back in May last year, me, Jaime, Kyra and Michaela went up to the Blue Mountains for the weekend. It was Kyra's birthday and that was how she wanted to celebrate, so Jai, Caley and I managed to find a cheap place to stay (K had already booked herself a hotel) and we all went up together.
Was a fantastic weekend, so much fun. It was the end of autumn so it was a bit cool (especially at night. Was so cold in the motel room at night *shivers in memory*) but not too bad really. We did all the "touristy" things lol. Like, we walked all around Katoomba and Leura, and we drove up to Echo Point and saw the Three Sisters which I hadn't done since I was a kid so it was fun. We were planning to go to this apple orchard as well that Jai said was awesome but it wasn't open when we went which was a shame.
Oh, and we also went to the Toy and Railway museum. I'd never been there before which was cool. Me, Jai and Caley managed to get stuck in the turnstile across the road from it *chuckles* Oh, and K's boyfriend Fitz also got the train up and spent the Saturday with us.
On the Friday night Jai, Caley and I went to check out the main bogan pub in Katoomba. Was an amusing experience XD (We had dropped Kyra off at her hotel so she couldn't come with us.) On the Saturday night we went to the other, slightly fancier pub where we discovered this awesome band. One of the trio played a double bass. Caley and Kyra retired early that night, but Jai and I really liked the band so we ended up going back after seeing them off to the hotel/cab to watch the rest of their sets.
And then we drove back to Sydney around lunchtime on the Sunday (which was actually Mother's Day). Also, lots of thanks went to Jai who had driven us up there and back, and driven everywhere while we were there. :D
Such a fun weekend. Have decided that we really need to do another road trip sometime soon. Jai and I are considering Easter. :)
And now photos, under the cut:
The prettiness of the colours of the dying leaves. I love autumn up around the mountains. It's a completely different feel to autumn in the city :)
The four of us at the back of Jai's parents' car. From left to right: Michaela, me, Kyra, Jaime.
This was taken at the Toy and Railway Museum. In the garden they had signs and benches with the names of all the stations between Central and Katoomba (... I think. Maybe it was all the stations around Sydney...?) Anyway, this is Jai and Caley underneath the Redfern sign. It made us crack up laughing. I'd try to explain but it won't make sense to any but us.
Also taken out in the garden of the museum. This was an old ad that used to be displayed at train stations. Again, it made us all crack up laughing, the nonsensicalness of it XD (Michaela on left, me on right)
Me and Caley in front of the Three Sisters. Except, obviously, you can't actually see the Three Sisters.
The Three Sisters.
Two members of the uber awesome band. At one stage they played Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire", which then became the anthem of our trip XD
And finally, the awesome double bass player, with Caley in the corner.
