It was the Labour Day long weekend this weekend, but unfortunately that did not mean a time to relax for me. The South Pacific Theatre Dance Championships were on at Homebush this weekend, so that's where I spent my Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday we had the masterclasses which were taken by professional dances and were really cool. I got out there a bit before eight in the morning (I thought the opening ceremony thing was meant to be on the Saturday, which it wasn't, and I didn't realise that I didn't have to be until 9am) but luckily Sarah came early as well so I had someone to talk to until the other girls arrived as well.
The first class was the highest level ballet which for God's knows what reason I had decided to attempt (despite the fact that I have never taken a ballet class before ever, lol). I managed to fake my way through half of it but then the teacher started demonstrating a really hard looking exercise. At that point I was like, nope, sitting down now, lol. So I sat down to just watch the rest of that class. Am rather proud of myself for even managing half of the class though :)
Up next was hip hop which was taught by a girl who had choreographed for Jessica Mauboy and various other singers. It was interesting and pretty fun, despite absolutely killing my knees. They're still all bruised up.
We had a couple of hours off then before the tap class which was at 3pm. The tap was OMGFANTASTIC! It was taken by a guy that performs with Tap Dogs. Liek, woah dude. And the routine was amazing and challenging and crazy fast. Just so much fucking fun. I was sweating so much and almost dead at the end of that class, but it was still so brilliant. Best part of the day XD
The last class was lyrical, almost straight after the tap, but I didn't end up doing it. I was stretching with the rest of the girls at the start of the class, but as I was bent over I could feel bile rising in my throat. I must've eaten too much at lunch and then followed very soon by the intense workout of the tap class was apparently too much for my stomache. So I sat it out and just watched the other girls as they did it. So overall it was a pretty good day and I had fun with the few other girls from my dance school who had opted to do the classes. Didn't end up leaving Homebush until 4:30pm though. I literally fell asleep for about two hours as soon as I got home, lol.
Sunday was a massively long day. Had to be out at Homebush at 7:30am for marshalling at 8:00. And then I didn't leave until just after 9:00pm that night. And for all those hours I only actually had to participate in the opening ceremony and in four dances. The rest of the time I filled in with reading all of Wide Sargasso Sea, eating, trying to stay awake, and at one stage when we had a four hour gap between dances I went for a walk around Olympic Park. I'd wanted some McDonalds so I walked down towards the stadium to get some and when I got there I realised a band was playing to entertain people as they streamed in (it was Grand Final day for the NRL). So I got my food and sat down on the grass to watch them. Was much better than sitting inside the stuffy Sports Centre (even though it was a bit windy and overcast, was definitely a refreshing change) and the band weren't bad either. I watched them until they finished and then walked back. So yeah, that was Sunday, very long.
And then I didn't even get to relax yesterday, despite the fact that it was a public holiday. There was no one else to work so I had to go into Shoes & Sox for the day. Was so super busy. Me and Kay had hoped that if it stayed quiet (like it was in the morning) then we'd be able to leave at 4pm but unfortunately it didn't. So we ended up being there until just before 5:00. Upside is that I'll get paid really well since it's double time and a half for public holidays :)
So yeah, that was my busy long weekend. Not hard to see why I feel tired, eh? lol.
