She lifts up the phone and drops it again too many times to count. Sometimes she even gets as far as dialing the first few numbers, but she always stops. What is she supposed to say? I’m sorry your dad died? Do you want me to come over so we can have some rip-roaring sex, just like we did when I felt miserable?
Perhaps the reassurance that she’d been there too would help. I know what it’s like to lose a loved one. It might even help her to feel better as well.
