"Sasuke!"

"I know," he called back, sounding annoyed, but his voice was drowned in the noisy flare of static as his chakra quickly manifested itself around his left wrist and then into his hand, focusing above the center of his palm as it crackled into the form of flickering electrical strands. He felt Kakashi land behind him, sensed a similar burst of power in his chakra unleashing, and the moment that familiar ring of sparking, hissing blue erupted at their feet, Sasuke glanced over his shoulder and saw Kakashi do the same, an affirmative look in his good eye.

"Now!" He was barely audible over the thunderous chirping, now doubled in volume, but Sasuke heard it and they moved, a single stroke of speed launched in an unpracticed but perfectly uniform rhythm. In that briefest of instants, Sasuke felt Kakashi at his back the whole way, their postures and movements mirror images of each other's: the same height, steps, breathing - or lack of the last - as they dashed forward, their respective Chidori blazing at full power until the very edges overlapped -

And then they stopped on the same beat, the same step, let out a low, sharp, mutual exhale of effort as their arms continued ahead of them. The two thrusts drove into the formerly impenetrable armor like a knife through butter, the chirping smothered and replaced by the cracking, splintering echo of the chakra-enhanced metal shattering.

The initial blow was over in a flash - blink and you missed it - but in another Sasuke felt Kakashi go further, driving his indestructible arm-turned-weapon deeper until it met flesh and bone, looking to kill, and for the split-second that their chakra remained merged, Sasuke's Chidori was pulled along as well into the lethal strike and forced forward into their opponent's warm chest.

But at the last second, Kakashi seemed to hesitate, wavering almost indiscernibly - and then suddenly Sasuke was freed, his hand left behind as Kakashi's finished the last few centimeters of the trek and stabbed through the man's body and back, breaking the armor there, too. The Iwa-nin coughed up a cloud of blood that Sasuke swiftly turned his head to avoid, but the man's action was in reflex only: he was already dead.

Retrieving the scroll of interest from the corpse afterward, Kakashi lowered his headband back into place and with a brief word moved to hurry onward, Sasuke following close behind. Just before taking to the trees for travel, Kakashi fleetingly swiped at the scarlet splattered across his nose and cheekbones - but his mask, Sasuke saw, remained noticeably stained.
