01. Little black dress:

Lynne wasn’t vain; she’d picked the dress for practicality more than appearances but the compliment made her blink and feel self-conscious for the briefest instant before rationality took over again, herself unconscious the lapse even occurred.

02. Combat:

Standing at five-foot-five, slight frame, and wearing a pair of cute red boots, Lynne had to admit she didn’t look particularly impressive in a fight; the furious, powerful goddess inside her on the other hand…

03. Fringe:

Lynne was never more grateful for her bangs than when she could use tugging at them or running her hand through them as an excuse to hide what she was really feeling.

04. Motor:

Lynne wasn’t sure whether to be disturbed that the purr of Gloomy’s motor and the way he ‘playfully’ bumped against their legs reminded Lynne of Zelda, if Zelda were a supposedly reformed man-eating, murderous Packard instead of an adorable ball of fluff that is…

05. Post-it note:

At an early age, Carol made sure to lecture Lynne about the definition of ‘passive-aggressive’ and to teach her that it was better to be straight forward about problems instead of leaving notes.

06. Crystal:

‘Crystal-clear’ was not what Lynne thought as she regretfully put away another book of demon mythology, starting to feel that even her math homework was making more sense than trying to figure this all out, but she picked up the next book on butterfly myths next anyway.

07. Raven:

Lynne tried not to smile when, as they threw around bird-based codenames to use, Lawrence suggested his codename be ‘Raven’  - he did seem to have a thing for dramatics…

08. Headphones:

Sometimes even she wanted to shut everything and everyone out, she thought as she put in her headphones and jacked up the volume so her world was just that and herself.

09. Masking:

A Persona and their host weren’t completely one but the uneasy part for Lynne wondered how much of her was ‘Artemis’, how much of her was the ‘mask’, and how much was actually ‘her’.

10. Grass:

A patch of grass, the latest book of Mary Sotter, a can of Coke, and a warm day was a enough perfect break for Lynne.

11. Diet soda:

While Lynne appreciated Artemis’ concern, she was less fond of the goddess nagging on her drink choices until she’d compromised with diet Coke instead of her regular.

12. Operator:

This killed Lynne: despite the power Artemis gave her, Lynnne wasn’t a healer and there was only so much a diarama spell could do even if she had that ability; all she could do was try not to break into hysterics (that wouldn’t help either of them, she tried to rationally tell herself even if that was the last thing she felt right now) as she placed the call and said, “Please, this an emergency - someone’s hurt bad and-”

13. strange bedfellows:

Lynne tried to be rational: the blizzard outside was showing no signs of stopping, even inside the cabin it was freezing, there was only one blanket and one bed, it was better to share than have one of them freeze overnight, it wouldn’t matter once she was asleep, and she was pretty sure she could trust Ezra - or at least, probably trust the joke he made about how he was too lazy to do anything - but that didn’t stop her from edging as far away on the bed as possible and seriously debate sneaking back to the wall….

14. Showers:

Once she got over being soaked - her hair was limp and windblown, her boots squishing as she walked, the tank-top under her blouse being the only thing protecting her modesty - Lynne had to admit, the feel of rain washing over her wasn’t so bad.

15. Vacation:

Lynne was quickly learning that when Oscar said ‘field trip’, ‘little errand’, or even ‘vacation’ for their group, chances are they were going to be fighting for their lives by the end so she made sure to pack her whip and the medical kit along with a swimsuit.

16. Sand dollar:

What Lynne brought back on their ‘vacation’: a sand dollar, some shells, some new hairclips, some bruises, an empty medical kit, nasty sunburn, and a demon that snuck home with them in her suitcase.

17. Mail:

During that year, Lynne sent more letters than she ever had in her life and she’d later cherish each letter she got once the mail stopped.

18. Writing:

Lynne always found writing therapeutic, one way or another: to meditatively free-write, to rant things that she’d never say aloud, to channel her energies and feelings into something more productive, and, in the rare exception, take her frustrations out on people she never would be able to.

19. World:

As scarier as her world had become since Awakening and becoming involved in the Persona business, she wouldn’t be afraid to acknowledge it had opened her up to other things too, like the glow of pixie lights, ballet-loving gentleman trolls, and the knowledge no matter how bad things got she would at least have someone inside her to back her up.

20. Drums:

The flapping of the butterfly was like a steady drumbeat, each beat saying ‘Persona’.

21. Island:

She didn’t want to cut herself off from people, but at the same time, in some ways, it felt safer if she did.

22. Found:

“You’ll find me,” Lynne said, strangely having no doubt they would.

23. Pearls:

“I’m enough about my looks without something that showy,” her mother said about her business rival’s pearls and Lynne agreed.

24. Throat:

“He cheated on my mom and she broke up with him,” the lie came out with practised ease however, every attempt to voice the truth (?) died in her throat before she could get past, “I…”

25. Song:

As Artemis transformed into Freya, Lynne could hear a song coming from the now-goddess of love: it sounded like goodbye.

26. Licorice:

Lynne would later wonder what was more embarrassing: the fact that someone had written a poem comparing her hair to licorice or the fact she’d missed the love poem was for her.

27. Disaster

Lynne felt her world begin to shatter as she read the words, “Rick and I were thinking of giving things another go.”

28. Haircut:

She couldn’t think - her thoughts were swallowed up by the repetition of what she’d heard earlier (“You have such pretty long hair, Lynne”) and the revulsion of his hand through her hair but where her mind failed her body acted: she pulled and snipped, hacking off strands of red over and over again as though she could somehow rid herself of the memory.

29. Cup:

Starducks, savior to all students during finals season; even Lynne wasn’t afraid to admit as she drank her fifth cup in the past hour.

30. Scene:

The scene would always be frozen in Lynne’s memories: she’d accidentally burned something on the stove and tried countering it with a bottle of 4-Breeze and then a musky cologne filled the air before she heard that teasing, tenor asking, “Where are you running off to?” before everything snowballed.

31. Criminal:

“I got nothing to hide,” Lynne said, attempting to smile, well-aware of the ball of guilt screaming ‘liar’.

32. Bars:

Lynne really should have realized her drink was being spiked at Nyx’s before the fight broke out…

33. Dancing:

It seemed wrong to call what Artemis did on the battlefield as simply furious violence…the more Lynne watched her the more Lynne saw it as a dance.

34. Heels:

There was no reason she always wore those red heeled boots except that she thought they looked pretty.

35. Temple:

‘The body is a temple where bodily health and purity reflects on the person,’ Artemis made no hesitation to repeat whenever Lynne ate junk food or didn’t exercise.

36. Sword:

As Lynne tried out the sword Ghosty had been eager to offer, it was quickly evident to her that she’d never be able to use a sword as well as a pen and after she had nearly hit one of the junk piles, Ghosty had been quick to offer her another weapon.

37. Animal:

“I like all animals, except snakes,” Lynne had said, something Artemis found ridiculous but Lynne would point out Artemis hadn’t had a snake thrown at her once.

38. Black and White:

As much as she believed there were shades of grey, there were some things that couldn’t be forgiven.

39. Negative:

The hardest part to facing her Shadow was not how similar yet-twisted her double was but when faced with the proclamation, “My name’s Lynne Sawyer , I’m afraid of physical contact but more than that, I’m a weak, passive, insecure coward who let it happen,” Lynne couldn’t refute her.

40. Sleep:

It would surprise Lynne to know: despite her aversion to physical contact while she was awake, her unconscious body reached out and held whatever was close, as though compensating for what she couldn’t do while she was awake.

41. Test:

Lynne breathed, keeping in mind there were more important things to be worried about, but if they couldn’t figure out where to move that goddamn matchstick so they could get out of this trap sometime soon she was going to start screaming and swearing in frustration too.

42. Snack:

She sighed mournfully as she got rid of the last of her chocolates, reminding herself that, as Artemis was quick to point out, it would be better for her health…or at least, better for her to get rid of the pimple outbreak.

43. Sunshine:

It might have been because it was a weekend morning and she still wanted sleep or because her Persona was tied to the moon, but Lynne sleepily glared at the sunlight through the window before rolling over to sink back into peaceful darkness and dreams.

44. Glasses:

If she could come up with rational arguments - or try to - for why she believed the things she did, did that really count as seeing the world through rose-coloured glasses?

45. Musical:

“Um, no thank you, that’s very kind but I think we’ll manage, somehow,” Lynne said, trying to dissuade Troll from his insistent offer that he them help improve their dancing and singing for their ‘Glee club’ cover.

46. Kitten:

Watching Zelda, Lynne thought about the kitten she’d brought home that she hadn’t been allowed to keep and wondered how long she’d be able to hold onto Zelda before she’d have to let go of her too...

47. Speeding:

Lynne didn’t doubt they’d help her out eventually but being Silenced, Cursed, and chased by a fire-breathing demon made her want them to hurry up and save her already.

48. Horse:

Apparently, unicorns thought Lynne’s denseness were a perfect indicator of a pure maiden.

49. Rhinestone:

It didn’t matter if it was just paste; to a younger Lynne a pretty rhinestone cat was way cooler than authentic jewels any day.

50. officer:

Too bad ‘fighting demons’ wasn’t an adequate excuse to explain to the cop in front of her why she’d been caught trespassing, surrounded by broken property, holding a whip, and covered in more blood than just her own.
