I had not read that comic before, but that page I read was funny! Loved the rapid fire 'sci-fi' comments. It's that sort of make it up as we go along science, right? (Hey, I love Dr Who and Stargate, even if I know that portal would never work in RL.)
The premise behind Girl Genius is that some people are born with the 'spark' of genius inside of them. These are usually your Teslas, Einsteins and Edisons. Of course, the spark makes them kind of crazy, so they're borderline mad scientists. The rapid fire 'sci-fi' is partially because the two characters are both sparks, and they're kind of descending into a haze of creative madness at the moment.
