Oh wow!  David Eddings Passed away!  He was one of my favorite epic fantasy authors when I was a teen.  While I was getting my divorce from my first husband, I coped by re-reading both of his major serieses all over again.  I read the paperbacks so much that the glue came loose in the bindings, and I went out to find the hardbacks at a used book ( Read more... )

I don't think I'll do that again really soon. I just don't have the time right now to read thirteen books. XD

I read the elenium and Tamuli while the tamuli was almost done. Then I went back and read the Belgariad and Malloreon. But I kind of gave up when he wrote the redemption of althalus. It just seemed like he didn't give his characters the possiblity of *not* winning, so It was hard to get into the book.

I think he wrote the whole thing to prove to himself that he could do an epic fantasy in 1 book instead of 13. But the whole thing was too rushed for my tastes. And I haven't even read the back covers of his last series.

The Elenium were the only ones I read to pieces, but I *did* get them in hardcover (from a seller through Amazon.com, I think). His were among the first "epic fantasy" books I read and I still love Sparhawk to death.

I actually read them out of order, starting with The Diamond Throne. It's says something about him as a writer, that I was not lost and completely hooked by the end of that chapter (Despite having to learn who 10 characters with similar sounding names and complex social and political interactions with one another were all at once.)
