A/N: This is a story set AU to mine and Strangevisitor7's Immortal!Dean Meta!Chloe universe. In the primary storyline, Dean did not find out that Chloe was an unaging meta for several hundred years. In this AU, he found out a little bit sooner.
“You suck, JD!”
Katie flinched as the sound of a bedroom door slamming echoed through the house.
“It's for your own good, midget!” JD's angry voice filtered down through the floor along with the sound of a rattling doorknob.
In response, a stereo cranked up, rattling the windows.
JD stomped down the stairs and out the front door. Once he was gone, Katie looked across the dining room table at Chloe with tired eyes. “Can I come live with you?”
Chloe chuckled at that. “Trouble in paradise?”
“Only between JD and Mary.” Katie grimaced. “Whenever he got into things with Mule, they always blew something up and then they got over it. But Mary is half JD's age.”
“And it's not like your boys know anything about girls.”
Katie nodded at that. “It's tough on her. She's the only girl, and the baby. And JD is a little too overprotective.”
“He's a lot like his uncle,” Chloe shrugged. “Even with my healing abilities, I think there are times Dean would like to wrap me in bubble wrap and store me in a bank vault.”
“And Mary was blessed with Sam's stubborn streak and my family's flair for dramatics.” Katie said. “It didn't used to be this loud, though. When Mary was little, JD was her favorite brother. But now, every time he comes home for a visit it's like this. I think she's going through a phase. Last week she wanted to be a cheerleader, and JD picked on her for wanting to join a teen suicide pact. This week she wants to hunt.”
“Which I take it no one is happy about.”
“After JD, Sam knows not to say anything. But since Sam is silent on the matter, JD thinks it's his job to speak up.”
Chloe made a thoughtful noise as she drummed her fingers on the table. “Sounds like she needs supportive female role models while she figures things out.”
Katie leaned forward, eyes narrowing in interest. “You volunteering?”
“I could use an assistant over the summer,” Chloe said. “I can teach her about research and the finer points of hacking. Maybe point her in a couple of directions where she would really shine, and then let her make up her own mind.”
“And keep her and JD out of each other's hair,” Katie said in relief. “I like this plan.” Then her face fell. “One problem, how do we do this without making it seem like she's being pushed off on you?”
Chloe bit her lip in thought. “Does she have history?”
“Yeah?” Katie raised an eyebrow.
“See if you can get her teacher to assign an open-subject history paper. Then you can have Sam suggest that she talk to me about the Gotham quake. I'll do the rest.”
“I think we can manage that,” Katie said in relief. “You sure you want to do this?”
“It's the least I can do,” Chloe ducked her head. “Especially after your family has done so much for me. You didn't have to make me feel so welcome.”
“Don't be silly,” Katie patted her hand. “You're family now.”
After that, she had the grace to leave the room long enough for Chloe to fix her running mascara.
