I always meant to expand on Chloe's backstory with the army, and what happened when she was in Corto Maltese. Lex hinted that she got involved in something not-so-nice, and when she said that out of a whole squadron of metahumans, the only ones who walked away were herself and the kid of a hunter.

Plus, add to the fact that she just had to mention where she'd been and who she'd met, and she got a little bit of respect from Sam and Dean.

All that put togeather would mean that she saw and walked away from something really bad.

In this situation, something went wrong and she didn't walk away.

I've always meant to go back and explore the whole "what happened" Idea. Particularly since Lex tried to dangle it over her head that she did a big, bad thing.

Still might, I don't know.
