River City Shelly Today's comic takes a lot of inspiration from video games, especially
River City Ransom. I just always felt it amusing how killing people in video games would cause them to blink out of existence or turn into money and/or items. No wonder murder is on the rise in Femmegasm Land.
Today's Transformer: ROTF toy review is going to be
Sideways. Sideways was the second toy I bought in this line, the first being Starscream. I want to say I really like the design on Sideways' robot mode... or more correctly I like it visual. The way the doors and windows hang off him gives him a really neat insect look. So much that I wish they named him something different like Kickback or one of the other G1 Insecticons. It would've been more fitting if you ask me.
However despite liking the look of his design, there's a lot of things NOT to like about this figure's robot mode. One of the worst being that for whatever reason they gave him REALLY TINY feet. This means he has a hell of a lot of problems standing and thus falls over a lot. I have found that you can move his feet and the car kibble on his calves just right to give him some extra support and thus stand better, but it's still a bit of trouble. It's especially annoying since according to the instructions and the stock pictures, he's supposed to stand without said extra support. Very annoying.
Another annoyance is his backpack, pretty much most of his car kibble all fold onto his back, and it's pretty terrible and sloppy looking. Having spare stuff fold onto the back of a Transformers isn't anything new, but they generally do it neat enough to where it will just literally look like a backpack or a square on their back, sorta' like it might MIGHT be meant to be there. But on Sideways it really does look like it's just a mess of random parts. Rather sloppy.
His car mode is quite awesome. He transforms into a faux
Audi R8 and looks rather nice to boot. I have no real complaints on his car mode other than it's a pain in the ass to transform him from robot mode to car mode. It feels like you're literally squishing him together, even worse none of the pieces seem to want to work together. It feels like everytime you peg in one piece another piece becomes unpegged. It's really annoying. His car to robot transformation is much smoother.
In the end, I like his design, but I don't think I'm going to play with him a lot. It doesn't help his appeal that he's barely in the movie and really is only there to get killed. Makes it hard to be attached to the guy, don't ya' think? Overall I like him, but I can't really recommend him. If your local Wal-Mart, Target, or Toys R Us is doing a sell on him for like $9 or less, then pick him up. Otherwise you can probably live without him.
