Transformers Animated Toys!

Well, so far I got two Transformers Animated toys and more coming in the mail. Inspired by wigglytype I've decided to take photos of my new toys and add my Femmegasm characters to them. As well as show these little pics, I plan to also tell you what I think of the toys. Here we go.

First one I got was Ratchet, and let me tell you, Hasbro/TomyTakara is not playing around with the Transformations on these characters. Ratchet is hella' complicated to transform from robot to ambulance and back. Granted a lot of the complications with his transformation has less to do with the transformation itself and more to do with Hasbro's lazy, unintelligible, textless instructions. I'm serious, there's lots of little details to the transformation that you don't get because of how unclear the instructions are. I practically got driven nuts trying to figure out how to get Ratchet's head to pop out of his body when transforming him into a robot. What I had to do was wedge this little peg on his kibble into a tiny hole on his back. Something the instructions didn't really tell you clearly. Granted I think the instructions would be a lot easier if Hasbro simply added text to them.

Also Ratchet's leg popped off a couple of times while I was transforming him. Fortunately it snaps back on with little to no problem.

However those are the only problems I have with the toy, otherwise he's totally awesome. It's amazing how cartoon accurate these toys are. They got all of his cartoon details like his pop belly, his broken crest, and his grumpy old man face. I also like the the added light blue piping so that his eyes glow if it's held up to a light. Ratchet also come with a crap load of tools that he can carry in hand or in his back kibble in robot mode. Unfortunately he has no where to put it in his vehicle mode. He even has a slot for his missing EMP generator/war wound from the cartoon. A nice little detail.

Despite his problems I still think Ratchet is an awesome toy, if anything for his amazing show accuracy. I mean it's really amazing how Takara pulled this off with such stylized character designs. I give him a B

Ah, Grimmy, definitely the toy I was looking most forward for in the TFA toy line. He's also a massive improvement over Ratchet in a lot a ways. He's got a very intuitive transformations scheme which is practically the same as his original G1 transformation scheme. How they pulled this off with such a drastically different looking character is freaking amazing. It wasn't overly complicated and it's actually fun to transform him from robot to T-Rex and back. Instructions work well this time too, though you probably won't need them to figure him out.

Best of all his robot and dino modes are extremely accurate to his character model, complete with his Trapjaw-ish mouth. He's got a lot of nice sculpting details and the blue piping for both his dino and robot modes. Also his dino mouth will open and close by pressing a button and he's got a fire sword that gains more fire (sorta) when placed into his hand in robot mode. It's really neat.

I'm totally in love with this toy. He's almost as cool as my favoritest Transformer toy, G2 Blue Grimlock. He's just got one little flaw. His robot head is actually kinda' visible in his dino mode. It's not easy to see unless you look under him, but it's still a bit annoying. A simple piece of folding or connecting plastic could've easily fixed that, but oh well, a minor quibble. Now I just need to buy another one so I can paint him blue. ;)
