you know, tumbleweeds, prairie dawgs...

yesterday we went on a short hike in saguaro national park .

i really enjoy the sonoran desert. i don't think i would in the summer, because it would be 110 degrees and there's no shade at all and no clouds. un. re. lent. ing. oh. em. eff. gee.

also, the coffeepot beeps when it's done brewing, and again when it turns itself of. the house beeps when you open a door. IRK. SOME. makes me glad i won't be here real long. i know when i open a door. you don't need to auditorily notify me. and i know the coffee is done brewing when it's a) had sufficient time to brew, and b) stops making brewing noises. also, i know the coffeepot is turning of when I HIT THE OFF BUTTON. it's like the pointless modern conveniences of tomorrowland. dumbdumbdumb.

the thing i really like about the sonoran desert is that it looks like hell from any sort of distance. doesn't look like anything. couple of scary cacti, lots of brown dirt and grit. miserable. but then when you're standing in it, it's absolutely lovely. the cacti are green and all different shapes and sizes. there are flowers blooming. there are willowy feathery trees and weird bromeliad-looking things. there are quail and i saw a bunny in the front yard this morning and little birds that nest in the elbows in saguaro cacti. they like to sit on top of the enormous cacti and sing. it's lovely.
