Comments: A couple of things to note, there might be confusion since points of view between Ruki and Reita change every now and then. And to everyone else, Reita's Reita. But to Ruki, he's Akira. This explains why his name changes throughout the chapter. So here it is, Chapter 1. Comments are loved, and enjoy. ^^

His suit was well ironed, his tie was perfectly straight, his noseband was on, and his Mohawk was styled. He was finally satisfied with how he looked, and the blonde turned away from his bathroom mirror, heading straight for the kitchen. He padded across the extra living area to the kitchen opposite his bedroom, all the while unaware of the presence in the first living area. Pouring himself a cup of coffee, the warm beverage slid down his throat easily, perking him up. Reita heaved a small sigh as he completed his daily morning routine, and washed up his used cup.

Placing the dripping wet cup onto the drying rack, Reita dried his hands with the dark blue-colored hand-cloth. He smoothed out his attire and took quick strides across the living room. It was the start of a brand new day, but no matter how he styled himself in the morning, he knew he would always return home bloody.

His thoughts were disrupted when his knee hit something, and he managed to catch himself just before falling flat. He stumbled carelessly for a few steps, and he cursed when he realized what- or who- he had tripped on.

Ruki was still asleep, and Reita had completely forgotten his presence. The blonde found himself unconsciously staring at Ruki’s face, and the latter seemingly in deep pain. Ruki frowned in his sleep, lifting his arm which had been sticking out of the couch to clutch his right wrist. There was a bandage there, and Reita realized he had probably gotten it from the car accident.

Breaking away from the stare, Reita turned to leave, but stopped in his tracks. He figured he could spare another few moments- he needed to talk with Ruki.

“Wake up.” Ruki felt someone nudging him hard on the shoulder, and it didn’t take more than a few pokes for him to sit straight up. His eyes were painful and he felt sore all over from sleeping on the couch all night. Ruki gasped when he realized the guy who had brought him back the previous night was sitting on the couch right next to him. He had his legs crossed, sitting stance relaxed, but his gaze at Ruki was hard- almost to the point of becoming unnerving.

“Can you talk?” Ruki nodded slowly to the question, noting that the guy’s tone was much gentler than previously.

Ruki seemed terrified of Reita, and the latter mentally slapped himself at how he had treated Ruki the previous night.

“Good. Now, tell me your name.”

“R-Ruki?”

“No, your real name.”

“I-I don’t know…” Ruki sounded broken, and Reita realized he was incredibly strong for someone who had lost his memory.

“Very well, do you remember anything at all?” Reita raised his eyebrows in hopefulness- he needed to get rid of this thing, as fast as possible. “Your relatives? Your family? Or where you live?”

There was a pause.

“What happened to me?” Ruki asked silently.

Reita raised his eyebrows.

“My parents died, I have no relatives. The last memories of myself, was when I was in a… alleyway?” Ruki looked pretty shocked himself at the memories. They were coming back to him, how his parents died when he was young, how he became a delinquent under the care of his adoptive parents, but it all stopped at that alleyway. It was as if his life existed in a film, and half was it was cut off.

“You can remember?”

“Not much… only till a point.” Ruki bit his lips. “What happened to me?”

Reita sighed.

“You were involved in a car accident, and damage was dealt to your brain.”

“Wha-what?” The news clearly came as a blow to the shorter blonde, but he needed answers now.

“According to the doc, you’re suffering from post-traumatic amnesia. You might lose all, if not some, of your memories.”

Ruki stared into space- he couldn’t believe this was happening to him.

“Then why am I here? Who are you?”

Reita’s expression stiffened at the question- He couldn’t possibly tell Ruki he was the boss of a mafia organization who was the fucker that had knocked into him and caused him all these misery, could he?

“You don’t have to know.” Reita turned away, and he realized he was already late.

“Oh shit.” Reita got off the couch and headed for the door, but he halted in his steps.

“W-wait!”

The teller blonde turned on his heels, raising an eyebrow at Ruki.

“What’s your name?”

Reita hesitated.

“The name’s Akira.” Reita held in his breath, and he couldn’t believe he was telling this stranger his real name. “Oh, and before I forget, do. Not. Try. To. Leave. This. Damned. Apartment.”

The taller blonde was firm in his words, and Ruki shivered at the coldness in his eyes. For someone as strong and definat as Ruki, Reita knew he would attempt to escape. And by leaving, Ruki would only cause him more trouble.

Ruki swallowed thickly at the statement, but nodded anyway. The tall guy turned in his steps and left the apartment, leaving Ruki all to himself.

It had been two minutes since that guy had left the apartment.

“Akira, huh?” Ruki muttered his name under his breath. It meant light, and Ruki was surprised the name was given to such a cold and uncaring person. Shivering at the memory of last night, Ruki curled into a ball on the sofa and lost himself in deep thoughts.

The alleyway… What had happened to him after that? From his memories, he looked pretty young when he slid down the dirty wall. Ruki was injured then, judging from the way he had clutched his stomach. Was it a gun wound? What had happened in between? Did he marry? Did he have kids? What was he working as? What if his family was searching desperately for him? Ruki clutched his head as a sudden headache pierced his brain.

There were too many questions he needed answered. Who was this Akira guy? Why had he fetched him to his apartment? Was Akira his friend? No, he decided. No one would slap his friend when he lost his memory and leave him to sleep on the couch.

Ruki decided he needed to leave. He needed to search for answers which he knew Akira wouldn’t provide him with. He doubted he even knew Akira in the first place and there wasn’t concrete proof if Akira was a friend or a foe. Ruki needed to find his family, he needed to find himself.

And with that, Ruki got off the couch and left the apartment silently, with nothing but his hospital gown on.

Cursing to himself, Reita dragged his feet heavily up the stairs. He was incredibly late by now, and of all times, he had forgotten his car keys back at home today. Finally reaching the Eighth story, he fumbled around his pockets for his keys before suddenly stopping in his tracks.

The figure in front of him stiffened visibly at the sight of Reita’s presence, and he stepped back unconsciously in fear. Reita narrowed his eyes at Ruki, with his feet bare and expression frightened.

“What the hell are you doing out here.” Reita was seething with rage, stable footsteps directed straight for Ruki.

“I-“ Ruki didn’t get to finish his sentence, before he was dragged harshly by the arm and into the apartment. Before he could register what the hell was happening, the door slammed shut and he found himself flung against the wall, pinned by the arms. Reita had one of his legs in between both of Ruki’s threatening to kick anytime.

Ruki struggled painfully against the strong hold, his efforts ending in vain.

“Let me go, you arse!” The shorter thrashed his head around frantically, using all his might to pull his arms away from Reita’s. His injured wrist was starting to hurt, and he was silenced immediately when a hard punch was delivered to his stomach. Ruki was desperate, miserable, aching and hateful. He bit his lips hard, and blood dripped from the abused flesh. He couldn’t care less about his lips now, not when the presence in front of him was so terrifying.

Reita’s eyes were wide open in anger, and in one way or another he was trying to hold himself back from lashing out. He had started regretting his actions the moment he attacked Ruki on his stomach, but the situation was a lot better without screams to attract nosy neighbors.

“Did I NOT tell you to not leave the house?” The statement dripped with incredible fury. Ruki remained silent. Reita had told him not to leave the house, but it wasn’t his fault.

“I needed answers, Akira!” Ruki yelled in Reita’s face- wrong move. Reita tightened his grip on Ruki’s arms, desperately trying to stop himself from losing control. “I don’t know who I am, what happened to me, who the fuck are you. I can’t go on like this!”

Reita finally lost control over himself, and within a moment he had shoved Ruki onto the floor. The latter held in a cry as he clutched his arm which had collided with the floor in pain.

“Why are you doing this to me…” Ruki’s voice was barely a whisper now, and for the first time since he woke, tears were streaming down his cheeks. Reita stopped dead in his actions, and his heart skipped a beat. What had he done? Reita gave a loud sigh- he should have stabbed this guy in the heart back at the hospital when he could. Now, it had only been a day and this guy was starting to screw his life upside down.

Slapping his forehead, Reita moved closer to Ruki, only to have the latter move backwards in fright. Without warning, Reita stepped forward and, grabbing Ruki by his uninjured arm, dragged him towards the bedroom.

“W-where are you taking me? Let the fuck go of me!” Ruki screamed with his dry throat, only to have his pleas silenced when Reita threw him onto the bed and locking his bedroom door. Reita looked the blonde in front of him up down, before heading for the bathroom in his bedroom.

Eyeing the leaving blonde cautiously, Ruki tasted the blood on his lips, and lifted his sleeve up. As expected, there was already a reddish bruise quickly forming on his arm. A sob escaped as Ruki looked back on the past events, and his hatred for Akira could only grow. Ruki closed his eyes, trying desperately to calm himself down, but hissed when something warm and wet came into contact with his lips. His eyelids shot wide open, staring at the blonde in front of him.

Akira had had a warm towel, folded nicely, against Ruki’s abused lips. The taller blonde dabbed gently at the wound, before changing the side of the towel and lifting Ruki’s sleeves up. The latter flinched at the movement, but allowed Akira to continue with his administrations. Ruki sniffed while Akira did the finishing touch up, and a loud ring pierced Ruki’s ears.

Damn, I never knew there was a telephone in this place.

Akira dropped the wet towel and headed for the telephone on a small display desk.

“Reita here.” Reita whispered into the receiver, making sure Ruki hadn’t heard his nick name.

“Reita? It’s Aoi.”

“Oh. Whassup?”

“You’re late.”

Reita glanced at his wrist watch, flinching at the annoyed tone Aoi was using. Granted, Reita was scary when he was serious. But Aoi could be a lot worse.

“I know. I’ll be right there.”

“You better be. And pick up your damn phone.”

Reita raised his eyebrows, before realizing what Aoi had meant. His expression became serious at the memories of last night.

“I crushed it.”

There was silence on the other end, and Aoi knew exactly why Reita had done it.

“I’ll buy a new one.”

“Thanks, before I reach HQ if you don’t mind.”

“Yeah, now get your ass over here.”

Reita smiled, before hanging up. His expression went to null again, staring at Ruki’s pathetic state. And it was all his fault. He couldn’t leave Ruki alone at home now; the latter would start thinking too much and leave his damn apartment again. He could have stayed home to keep an eye on Ruki, but he couldn’t risk a day off just because of this guy here. Besides, he promised Aoi he’d be there. Reita sighed as he picked up the receiver and he dialed a familiar number. He could only call him in for help now.

The sound of the door clicking open triggered Ruki from his short nap. In the near distant, he heard a conversation going on between two people, and he recognized one of the voices.

“I’m handing him over to you.”

“You haven’t exactly told me why he’s here, Akira.”

“Don’t ask. Just make sure he doesn’t leave the house. That guy has been giving me enough trouble.”

“…Alright.”

Ruki heard footsteps leading out of the room, and another pair heading for him. He opened his eyes tiredly, and they were even sorer ever since he started crying. And what surprised him the most was that there was another presence in the room.

“Hi.” The brunette was leaning against the wall, his hands shoved in his pockets. He had black-rimmed glasses on, and his hair wasn’t styled, unlike Reita’s. He bore a smile on his face, and the atmosphere around him was significantly more comfortable.

“H-Hi?” Ruki seemed to lose himself at the amazing difference between Reita and the new guy. “W-wait, who are you?”

“The name’s Kai.” Kai flashed a smile in Ruki’s direction. “It isn’t exactly my real name, but well, since Akira calls me that, I go with that.”

The mention of Akira’s name was a complete anti-climax.

“So… you’re Akira’s friend?”

“Yeah, sort of. Play mates.” Kai added cheerfully, earning a disgusted look from Ruki.

“Oh come on… He isn’t that bad, is he?” The smile was still evident on Kai’s face, and he flopped himself down on Reita’s bed beside Ruki. The latter shifted a little further, but he couldn’t deny that he felt much more at ease around Kai. For a moment- just for a moment- he had thought he’d found someone who could get him out of this shit.

“If you consider shoving me around and slapping me friendly actions, then I have nothing to say.” Ruki shrugged.

Kai chuckled.

“Well, at least he bothered to clean you up.”

“He’s a beast, a completely ferocious animal. Even I can tell he’s cold-blooded.” Ruki felt a chill down his spine at the looks Akira had shot at him before. There was distaste in Ruki’s voice as he spoke about Reita, and the hatred was incredibly obvious.

Kai’s expression softened from the cheerful smile, into something more emotional.

“Well, Ruki. Akira has his good points.”

Ruki scoffed.

“My ass he does.’

Kai gave another loud chuckle, before changing the subject.

“In any case, we have the whole day. So, what d’ya wanna do now?”
