in the style of true ben sneakiness...i'm writing this in the body of an email...which i will then post to the journal. bwahaha, everyone thinks i'm working. that or no-one cares, which would make this plan a little pointlessly elaborate.
we had our first vancouver weekend.
jess (a classmate of mine) and her boyfriend alex came to Yaletown (which is my neighbourhood here in vancouver) and we met up at this tiny sushi place called Yamato. We're still not used to how cheap sushi is here, so we overcompensated and ordered way too much - and then punished ourselves by forcing ourselves to eat all of it. That backfired. I was so stuffed with rice and raw fishy bits that i could barely force feed myself three drinks back at jess' apartment before we took to the streets and bused to Gastown (which is another vancouver burough) to find a place called Shine that came highly recommended. The walk and the fresh air sobered us up a bit (effectively killing what buzz we had managed) but it also helped with the digestion, leaving room for drinks.
so we get to shine, pay the 12 dollar cover/coat check and wander in - get to the bar - ask for a beer.
$6, says the lady.
"oh no, sorry," i say, "i only wanted ONE beer"
"six dollars she says"
"you're not in montreal" says my jerky inner monologue.
long story short we put up a brave front, but i simply couldn't afford to drink from scratch at that place ($6 is the better part of a pitcher at the Bif!) so we stayed until 1:30-ish and then we were just too sober for words, so off we wandered back to homes. I'll simply have to be more prepared next weekend. less eating, more liquor. get my priorities straight.
oh yeah, job's going fine.
