Not so relevant to this post, except that it's a story about a woman who is awesome: against my better judgment I got antsy and posted fic on a Saturday evening, even though we all know that's a bad time to do these things if you want anyone to see it. So in case you're interested and missed it,

She wouldn't admit it to anyone else, but she loves Caprica City. She loves the glittering buildings, the too-well-groomed parks, the diverse array of people, and the infinite variety of little shops selling everything from organic, local produce to scratchy vintage music recordings to luxury goods imported from every corner of the colonies. She walks the streets and discovers something new, something she had never imagined, every day.
This week she's grown quite fond of a coffee shop tucked down a quiet side street. They roast their own beans and adamantly refuse to provide wireless access because they cater to a clientele that likes to chat over coffee, or read, or sit and watch the world go by. People who are too attached to their computers have plenty of other options. She likes the fresh-faced, pierced, and tattooed barista, and she's getting to know the regulars by sight.
But she should move on. There are hundreds of shops in the city whose coffee she's never drunk.
She returns her mug to the counter (no disposable cups at this shop), and the barista waves, calling, "see you tomorrow." She nods but does not correct the girl. Humans fall so quickly into routines, taking things for granted. She never will, because she knows it won't be long before it's all gone.

I feel like it's sort of both things about the coffee shops, though: she does want to taste them all because she enjoys it and wants to try all the new things she can (and I think it's important that she loves variety, because that's something that isn't all that ubiquitous in Cylon culture, but if anyone's going to get it, it'll be a Six), but at the same time, she's savoring it more than anyone else because she knows it's not going to last.
