Among possible harbingers of the apocalypse:
* G20 turns downtown Toronto into a police state. I'm pretty much just planning to stay at home for the next four days.
*
EARTHQUAKE!!! Okay, it was a fairly wee little thing, but it was my first earthquake, and as such, kind of exciting and freaky.
* World Cup craziness!!! Argentina and Brazil have been predictably strong, poor England has been predictably mediocre, and just about everything else is unpredictably topsy-turvy and a great deal of fun. And it turns out that I have just two degrees of separation from Landon Donovan, which is kind of awesome.
* Dr. Me, now 72 hours and counting! (Thank you for the various congrats!)

How many people were aware that the world's best cyclist is
a 51-year-old woman? Yes, Jeannie Longo has won her fifty-seventh national title--this time the French national time trial, by over a minute. Given the (lack of) success of French men's cycling in recent years, I imagine there's an argument to be made that Longo is currently the best French cyclist, period. And really, I'm not sure there is an athlete, male or female, with a more accomplished career in any sport. I certainly remember thinking she was awesome back when I was a kid, and I'm delighted to see that she's still going strong.
Speaking of awesome women--the fictional kind, this time--hopefully everyone is aware that there's an
Awesome Ladies Ficathon going on! Comment-fic, very low-key. Lots of good stuff there already, and lots of prompts, and you should totally all go play!
Also, a vid rec:
beccatoria does
Ellison in Wonderland. It's a bit of a stylistic experiment for Becka--more of a visual, impressionistic vid than her usual cerebral style, but it really, really works! And, well, Ellison!!! *loves*
