only one favorite female character????

It appears that V has been renewed for a second season. I'm a little surprised, frankly, but not displeased. The past couple of episodes have improved (lots of Bechdel test-passing in the last one, yay!), and although it still has some not insignificant overall problems, I will be interested to see what they do with a second season

I did acknowledge Sarah! ;) Though I think my list in order would go something like Laura, then Aeryn, then Sarah. But it's hard to choose between the three of them!

CJ, for me, is a slightly different kind of love. The three above I love as fictional characters: I love the way they're written, their arcs, their various complexities and varieties of kick-ass-ness, etc. I love that kind of thing about CJ, too, but mostly, I think I'd love to have a beer with CJ. Or to get career advice from CJ. Or, y'know, to be as awesome as she is. Whereas I don't aspire to be Laura or Aeryn or Sarah (as much as there are moments when I might want to channel certain aspects of their personalities), and I think they might all terrify me a little too much to really want to be friends with them. Meanwhile, CJ's arc as a fictional character doesn't do as much for me overall in the sense that she doesn't develop, change, operate from as consistent a set of internal and external motivations as the others (except, in the case of Laura and Aeryn, when those motivations get swept aside for love and babies, ugh!).

It turns out that my recent infatuation with Gillian Foster is yet a third kind of love: an honest-to-god crush. She pushes my buttons in the same way that Cameron Mitchell does: in the "yeah, I would marry you" kind of way. Which is...different. The particularly odd part of that is that she's really not my "type" when it comes to the kind of female characters I usually love. So yes, character love comes in many different forms, apparently.
