The best kinds of shows are the ones with character journeys that dig so deep and hit so hard that years later you can think of the group of characters--these people you knew and loved while you watched them grow and learn and struggle and love--and it's like the best kind of punch in the gut, the best kind of achey adoration. And the best kinds of vids, at least in my mind, are the ones that can do that: that make me smile and cry and want to rewatch the entire show Right Now because of how much I love these people.

I think I may have a new gold standard for such vids: greensilver has done The West Wing to Simon and Garfunkle's American Tune, and I CANNOT EVEN, Y'ALL!!!! If you loved TWW, you simply must go watch this vid right now! Bring tissues, but in a good way.

In other news, it turns out that if you add lemon juice to sauteed onions, they turn into the most delicious crack EVAR!!!! Why did no one ever tell me this?!?!?!? Thank you, emmiere, for the suggestion with the onions, garlic, kale, and LEMON JUICE! It was tres yummy! Though I may have to experiment with other greens, as well; the kale was a bit tough and not quite as flavorful as I might like. Maybe I didn't have very good kale? Or I didn't cook it long enough? Hmm.

I also keep having to remind myself that it's not a failure of character or stamina to turn on the air conditioner. See, I REALLY LOVE hot weather. I even love humidity. And this week, after an extraordinarily mild summer, it has FINALLY gotten hot and humid, and mostly I'm in heaven, but things like sleeping and exercising are slightly hampered by the 40 C heat index (this is over 100 in Farenheit; the base high temperatures this week have been in the 30s, which is upper 80s/low 90s F). And I can do both of these things more comfortably if I just turn on the air conditioner, but I feel guilty when I do. Partly like I'm killing the earth, but partly like I've failed as heat-loving summer girl. Mostly the latter, in fact. And, well, that's sort of stupid. Because when the heat index is 40, there's nothing wrong with a touch of air conditioning.
