stretching the fic-writing muscles?
So there has been an unpopular fannish opinions meme going around. And I've contemplated doing it, but I don't think I'll bother. But I was struck by one of gabolange's: she mentioned that the kind of fic she writes is not the kind of fic she tends to read, and vice versa. And that got me pondering a little bit

The problem with Bones is that there's already so much quite lovely fic in that fandom that I don't really feel inspired. I mean, I am far more intrigued by the show and by Booth and Brennan (as individuals and as a pairing) than by any of these others I mention (with the exception of Sarah and Ellison, but they fall in a different category for me). But somehow that doesn't make me that much more likely to write them--it just makes me want to read them more, or watch the show more.
As I mentioned above, I have a tendency to break my fannish engagement into two categories: there are the shows I actually want to think about and write about and be fannish about, and with those I tend not to have strong shipper buttons. I might get interested in a pairing, but not in the way that makes me want to read (or write) fluffy ship fic. But I do have those buttons, so instead of reading mediocre ship fic about my favorite shows, I am a silent reader of mediocre ship fic for shows I'm not otherwise fannish about (often procedurals with angsty cop partners). When there's lots of good fic in such a fandom, I have no desire to add to it myself, typically. But the problem with Bruce/Amy and Mac/Stella is that there isn't enough good fic to satisfy my cravings, so now I have this idea that I might try to write some myself.
But naturally, Bones and TSCC are getting the most votes, as well they should! I just...might not listen immediately.
