let me distract myself with shiny things
Life has me in full-fledged panic mode, generally. So I respond by flapping my hands joyfully in the general direction of things that have nothing to do with the chief cause for panic.
For instance, there are already 111 people watching galpalficathon!!!!!!! EEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!! I'm so thrilled by the initial burst of interest, and I very much hope this will be a success. It's rather a testament of the value these kinds of stories hold for a good many people. YAY!!! Be thinking about prompts over the weekend!
Another shiny thing du jour: DS9. Specifically the episode "Necessary Evil." OMG Odo and Kira backstory!!!!!!!! This was something about their relationship I was actually not spoiled for. OMG!!!! KIRA!!!!!! ODO!!!!!!!! This episode reminded me quite a lot of Farscape's "The Way We Weren't" for a number of fairly obvious reasons--not just plot but even lighting choices--but nowhere more so than that very last scene. The tag scene is something of a fine art, and no one does it like Farscape. Including DS9, at least most of the time in what I've seen so far. But that last scene--sort of climax and denouement all at once, rather than a tag--where Kira asks Odo if he'll be able to trust her again, and he doesn't answer, and they just STAND THERE!!!!!! That's the way I like my ambiguity, thank you.
This is not so much a shiny thing for me this year, but I do hope those of you going to Dragon*Con this year have an utterly fantastic time!!! I'm not all that sorry not to be going to sit in panels and wait in lines (and particularly not given how crazy my life feels right now), but I'm quite sad not to get to hang out with those of you who are. In particular, I ask sugargroupie, 50mm, danceswithwords, and asta77 to have a drink for me! And come back with good stories! *hugs you all*
