Can we take a wild guess, my friends, at what historically uninspiring college football team has just beaten one of its chief rivals (heretofore ranked #9, no less), to find itself with an extremely inspiring 3-0 record as week three of the college season winds to a close??? Oh yes. That would be my University of Kentucky Wildcats. *dances* 40-34, baby! And by the skin of our teeth and the mercy of the clock, it seems. I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts, because next week we start playing conference games, and no matter how shiny Andre Woodson's passing skills, our mediocre defense isn't going to hold up much against the rest of the SEC. But at the moment, glory!
Today did not, in fact, include nearly as much football as I had planned. Roomie and her boyfriend have been watching The Sopranos, and they showed up this afternoon with whatever season they were ready for, and this created a slight conflict of interest in TV use. They indulged me for most of the first half of the Florida-Tennessee game (take that, Evil Orange People!!! ha!!!), but then took possession at halftime and have been there ever since. But since Kentucky-Louisville was not actually playing on a channel we get, and I didn't care so much about the games that were airing, I didn't put up a fight. Still, though, it's been a chilly, blustery day, autumn announcing itself with purpose, and there should have been more football.
Instead, I watched a good bit of Heroes, which I continue to enjoy, caught up with various and sundry family members on the phone, and did not actually write any more of my Farscape story, despite mulling it over in my mind considerably. Tomorrow will be a library day to make up for today's slacking.
ETA: Proof of Kentucky football's historically uninspiring record: this is the first time we've beaten a top-ten team in three decades!!!!!! I knew it was bad, but even I didn't think it was quite that bad!!! (Of course, it's also debatable whether Louisville really deserved that #9 ranking in the first place, and what rankings really signify this early in the season, but all that aside, I'm still riding the moment of glory!)
