Gal Pal Fic Week

May 27, 2007 21:21

I was thinking the other day about last year's magnificent Thelma and Louise Do Outer Space Ficathon and how fantastic it was to have all that fic about women's friendships. And, y'know, there should always be more of that sort of fic. Consequently, I'm declaring this week Gal Pal Fic Week--at least for myself, but it would be great fun if some of ( Read more... )

I've been re-watching BSG, and I found it particularly nice to get re-acquainted with Elosha--she really does rock. She also appears to be about the only person to stand on equal footing as a friend with Roslin early on--and the only person to call her by her first name, which for some reason I love--and that friendship I think is particularly interesting.

And I'm hoping this will be a fun theme to have. I realized I probably did badly posting it in the middle of a holiday weekend in the US--I suspect it may get a bit lost. But even if no one else plays, I intend to have fun. I've got some Aeryn/Chiana and Sam/Vala I want particularly to write.

It's amazing how much I didn't notice the first time! Especially minor character stuff. I'm not sure how much of season 3 I'll re-watch, but I ran through 1 and 2 so quickly that it's definitely worth it to sit back and take my time with it in a rewatch.

I hope you do get inspired by an idea to play along! And feel free to pimp the idea around, if you want.

This drabble doesn't really do everything I wanted to do with Laura and Elosha, but thanks to you pointing out that deleted scene, I got fascinated by the idea of Elosha's own faith, her responsibilities to the fleet in a time like this, etc. The other part of what I wanted to write will have to be in Laura's pov, I suspect, so perhaps it will come later.

And I love your icon, incidentally! "Hero" is one of those episodes I'd just as soon wipe from canon, but I do love that scene. And they should totally dress casually more often!

I don't know if I'll get to play in the fic pool this time around, but I love the idea! I also adore your story here; it provides such a poignant look at Elosha and what she, as a believer and a priestess, is going through in these interesting and tragic days. So understated, and I love it.

Well, if there's no time or inspiration for girlfriend fic this week, you could always file it away for some future time. Or not. Whatever. There are no rules in Gal Pal Fic Week. ;)

And thank you! I've been re-watching season 1 (and now am into season 2), and I am remembering how much I liked Elosha. This was really supposed to be more about her friendship with Laura, about the fact that she's one of a very few people at this point who stands on equal footing with Laura as a friend, who calls her by her name, etc. But then it turned out being more about Elosha's faith--which is okay, too. I may poke at the other theme later.

I loved this; it is so simple, and yet it isn't because death though simplistic in nature is always so complex in context. (^^) I love the way you've drawn the relationship between Elosha and Laura. I think two particular defining moments for me, into another side of Laura-not-the-President, has been Elosha's death and Billy's death. This was just... fantastic.

Thank you! I loved the relationship between Elosha and Laura: I'm always struck by the fact that Elosha was the only person back at the beginning who called Laura by name, who stood on equal footing with her as a friend. And then I started to think about the terrible burden it must have been for her, as well, to be the priest, the person people are looking to for help and guidance and comfort in such a terrible time.
