Barack Obama on religion and politics

Jul 04, 2006 10:26

Apologies if these links are redundant--I know this speech has been making the rounds on the internet the past few days. But given my interest in the religious left, I'd be remiss not to post them, for my own future reference if nothing else. Plus, I really need to publicly fangirl Barack Obama!

For those who don't know, Obama recently gave the keynote address at Jim Wallis's Call to Renewal conference. I'm not going to take the time to do a big analysis or anything like that, but I will say that I'm extraordinarily impressed. Read/listen to the speech here.

Also, Amy Sullivan has a good discussion of the speech in Slate.

I know it's probably a bit soon for Obama to run for president, but oh how I wish he would!!! From what I know of him, he's perhaps the only politician I've run across who isn't merely, in Leo McGarry's words (er, Aaron Sorkin's words!), "the lesser of who cares."
