Lessons Learned in 2008

Jan 01, 2009 00:04

1. If you like someone, it's best not to sleep with them. If you must get laid, sleep with someone you don't really care for. If they never phone, you won't feel terribly hurt.

2. Reading Jane Austen is worthwhile, even if I wanted to bash my brain in during Mansfield Park and Emma. Reading books by Sophie Kinsella and James Gunn is also worthwhile, even if they aren't considered "classic."

3. It's because of that first conversation with my aunt Elena about Sarah Waters that I feel so tied to her, and all the tears I've shed for her can be traced back to this moment.

4. Based on observations, I wager that I must eat twice the food most people do.

5. Sometimes when you're feeling blue, a big gay crush can pick you up. Especially if said big gay crush confesses to owning two copies of Serenity (one for herself, the other to loan out) and surreptitiously watching Repo! clips with her headphones in so no one knows she's obsessed with the song "Zydrate Anatomy."

6. The more reviews tell me Synecdoche, New York is the greatest film of the year, the less I want to see it.

7. Actor obsessions are quite common with me. This year, I've gone through Dan Byrd, David Tennant and Bill Moseley phases.

8. Video stores are surprisingly busy between the hours of two and three in the afternoon.

9. I live and breathe art in all its forms, whether that means hand-making holiday cards, spending two years on a mixed media piece, or wanting to dress in black and white and sing lines like, "Why dream of a life past this fence? It really makes no difference, 'cos I know that I'll never be fixed. Tell me, why, oh why, are my genetics such a bitch?"

10. Oui, on peut!

10.5. Anonymous kink memes might be my favorite thing in the world right now. They're amazingly creative and cathartic.

food phobia, let the right one slip in, art crawl, crow sickened, david tennant, bill moseley's sexy stitches, sex, left alone with marx and engels, 2008 ftw, a little glass vial, oui on peut
