WARNING: Sports rant ahead

Jul 15, 2008 23:04

Yankee fan here, going on record as being completely disgusted by the behavior of the people who were watching baseball at Yankee Stadium tonight. Notice I do not say "fans" because they do not qualify. I love Mariano Rivera as much as the next guy, but to boo Papelbon and call him "over-rated" during an EXHIBITION GAME while he is playing for YOUR TEAM is unconscionable.
a) what he said was not a terrible thing to say. Of COURSE he's going to say he wants to close the game. If he didn't, he would be accused of having no heart.
b) the Daily News is such a shitty rag I can't believe they have yet again incited such vindictiveness in the meatheads that purport to pay attention to the sport
c) in the same interview he backtracked, complemented Rivera, and called him the "Godfather of Closers".

So really NY baseball writers, get a life. Stop trying to make other people miserable. And "people who supposedly pay attention", shut the hell up fo' I smack you upside the head.

AND! George Steinbrenner, you do not get to throw out the first pitch just because your fat cranky ass has more money than god. Leave that to Yogi and the people who actually deserve it. Jerkface. And give me my stadium back!!

...

Papelbon is not the only one who has been soured on this All-Star experience.

EDIT: I did some research last night and could not find anything in the original article that even remotely slighted Rivera. My dad had heard that he actually called Rivera "overrated" himself, and that was why the NY fans were on him so hard. If that's true, then I don't blame them for being pissed off, but I can't find any corroboration of that story.
