Today I received in the mail somethng I have been waiting for all week. It was the fifth chapter from the book "Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Whatever: a memoir, sort of" written by John "Jack" Dizer, a Sangamon alumni from the 1930's. In it was 6 pages full of memories from his years as a camper, invlauable information for my research paper. Earlier today I talked with my FYS professor about how invested I've become in this project and how I doubted I could cram all this information into only 10-12 pages of essay. She then suggested that I apply for a Fellowship to continue this research after this class using St. Lawrence stipends. And let me tell you, at this moment, while I very much want to go back to Sangamon, it would be incredible to work as both a counselor and a researcher for the duration of the summer, finding free time to rummage through the main house attic to find camp records and to piece together this enormous story starting from the beginning. I feel like the camp deserves this, as do the staff and the campers. They deserve to know the history of the place they have all come to know and love.
This week I have been researching like crazy for this paper. On Monday I was up until 4 am finishing a transcription of my interview with David Smith and I was up till 3am last night working on this paper as well. (by the way Will I hope to send you the next transcript probably tonight or tomorrow). Tonight should be another late night, possibly even an all-nighter if I feel up to it. I'm looking forward to it. This week I have realized, that with enough caffeine, I can function very well on very little sleep. But then again, and unlike my roommate Mike, I didn't come to college to sleep. So this suits me just fine.
Well I should study for my Chem exam tonight. Unfortunately I do actually have other classes to attend to while I'm so preoccupied with Sangamon.
(thanks Will for this pic, it is a very nice shot)
I miss you all soooooo much!!!
I hope you're all well...
