The Road
I just finished this book, and haven't quite processed it yet. And I feel like my lack of Bible-knowledge is keeping me from fully appreciating it. Sometimes after reading I would feel nearly an ascetic out of sympathy. Someone on the Bookworm said that this is the new apocalyptic sentiment, and I suppose the importance of that current of thought in Western popular culture shouldn't be underestimated. McCarthy taps into it to look for the essentially human, and it's even more devastating than, say, No Country for Old Men.
