I work at what was formerly known as thelargestbankintheworld, and you know it's going to be a bad news day when you have to get past cnn to get in the front door of your office building. (granted, i enter on a different street, but i heard about it) lots of lots of layoffs are being reported and are actually happening at my office location in particular. people who have worked here for 20 years found out yesterday that friday will be their last day. i found out about how bad it was through a pal of mine. she told me "you better get your ducks in a row and start on your plan b". i found out yesterday that another pal of mine (who doesn't work at my company) just lost his job. he had been there for a while and he really loved what he did for a living. i was shocked to hear the news...he was one of the lucky ones who got a job in his chosen field of study and liked what he did and made enough money to do well for himself.
as my older and far wiser brother told me once, plan b is just another word for logic. everybody has to have some sort of idea of what they would do if the other shoe dropped..or if several thousand shoes drop all at once and smack you on the head on their way down. a million different scenarios can fall into place that could change your current life as you know it. i'm not talking about doomsday things, but the things that occur to regular people that can alter your life, whether these 'things' are initiated by your action or not. you can either worry yourself into a paralysis or plan your own cause and effect flowchart series. i know what my plan b is - and it doesn't involve staying in this area, for reasons monetary and emotional. i'll give some things and dreams up, sure, but desperate times call for desperate measures.
between all of the bad news out there, both personal and reported by the media, what is your own personal plan b?
