I was perusing through the Experimental College list of classes - they were offering a Brazilian dance class for Samba. I asked Bryan if he wanted to learn how to Samba.
What?! He responded. He told me I sounded like I was saying "San ba," which translates to "three eight" in Mandarin, which is a phrase to describe someone who is silly, almost ridiculous.
So I practiced saying Samba over and over again. And I can't! I keep saying san ba, san ba, san ba...
I'm a FOB. I'm a FOB.
Once upon a time I also couldn't say "total" and "local." I would say "toto" and "loco." My college roommate Kris, who was a linguistics major, helped me figure it out. Except once in awhile, I'll still slip up.
Help me, Kris!
