Okay. So here's what's going on in my life:
Many months ago, I had applied for this job with a company that does background investigations for the Federal Government -- it's a government contracted job -- not a real government job. But I didn't hear from them for months and months, so I sort of figured, ah well, I guess a theatre major probably isn't best suited for such work, and moved on.
However about two months ago - maybe less - I did hear from them, and they wanted to know if I was still looking for work in the DC area, and so forth. I said, "yes, of course. I'm relocated in mid-June." They said, fabulous, well we've looked over your application, and we'd like to set up an interview. First comes the phone interview, then comes an in-person, panel-style interview, after which, we'll review you and decide if you're a go. And THEN, we do an in-depth background investigation on you, so that you have the appropriate security clearance and so forth. Unfortunately, it might take a while for us to do the investigation, so if you're "hired" it's a conditional employment, and we won't be able to do much until you've been cleared. I say, "yes yes fine. sounds great."
Cut to phone interview (aced), panel in person interview (rocked). I'm "hired." They've sent me all the paper work, and I had two weeks to fill it out. It's a billion questions about my past, academic, residential, and otherwise; I had to be fingerprinted (an incredibly difficult task apparently); I had to have passport style photos taken... and on and on. I got that done, sent it in. A couple weeks later, I had to take a drug test. I heard from my investigator - the guy that's looking into my past, set up an appointment to meet with him (tomorrow, actually). And then I kind of sat back, and expected to wait a long while to hear from the company to say "yes" or maybe even "no."
So: you'll imagine my complete shock and awe when I hear from someone on Tuesday of last week telling me I've been "favorably ajudicated" ("yes") and they need to get me a start date.
WHAAAA?!
It turns out that they've done a quick glance over and decided that I'm probably in good shape, so they want to get me started ASAP.
"Can you start June 19?"
"Well, I'm moving that day..."
"I'll talk to your district manager and see if that's ok"
"Ok. Great, thank you."
A few hours later...
"Yes, that's no problem, you can go ahead and start June 20. And you get a bonus."
OH!
My life over the next few weeks looks like this:
This week - packing, organizing, finishing things up here in RI.
June 16-18 - NH with my family and Julia's
June 19 - MOVE
June 20 - Start work, shadowing someone
June 26 - Go for 3 week training in Western Pennsylvania
July 14 - back in Virginia, a couple more weeks of training
For all this, I get an incredibly awesome job that provides me with regular (and GOOD) pay, benefits, a flexible schedule, working out of my home, a new company car (with gas, insurance, and maintenance paid for), a laptop, a fax/printer...
And the list goes on and on. It's a great job and I'm SO SO SO excited about it.
That's where I'm at right now... A little overwhelmed by all the life that keeps getting tossed my way - not in a bad sense, but there's just so much to do and so little time right now. I'm so grateful and delighted for all the good stuff that keeps happening, but I feel a bit like I'm running to catch up with this awesome life that's begun... it's almost like I'm watching it happen and not really getting that it is in fact happening to me.
Wow.
So. That's that!
If people want my new address and so forth, just let me know. And if you're in the DC area, we should fully get together - As you all know I love a good friend gathering.
But not more than I love a good adventure! Buckle your seatbelts...
