I want to like people. I really do. But lately I am losing all faith in humanity and all respect for the people I am surrounded by. For example:
1. I don't want to hear sorority bitches whine and complain about their sororities, whether it be problems with the sisters, time commitment, or getting in trouble for breaking some stupid rule. YOU signed up for it, YOU wear the ugly shit with your sorority name on it every day, and YOU pay the ridiculous dues that could be used to... i don't know... feed starving people or something. DON'T FUCKING COMPLAIN ABOUT IT - JUST QUIT. maybe, just maybe, you can salvage yourself and become a normal human being.
2. If you are racist, homophobic, or elitist based on socioeconomic status (ie you are a rich bitch who hates poor people), go set yourself on fire, fuck yourself with a large piece of pipe, and jump off a tall building. Then let me mutilate and consume your dead body basted in BBQ sauce, because you don't deserve a proper burial. Yes, there are individuals who fit your stereotypes. Yes, we all harbor prejudices. But by and large you are just WRONG AND IGNORANT, and the rest of us can control and sometimes even change our prejudices. If I had access to atomic weaponry, I would round up all the aforementioned individuals and slaughter them. They deserve it.
3. It amazes me that, in this day and age, so many people are still convinced that rape is somehow the victim's fault, or that women are going around throwing out fake accusations left and right. I'm not saying false accusations are NEVER made, but I AM saying that the number of false accusations pales in comparison to the number of rapes that are never reported, often because the victim fears that she won't be believed. If my opinions letter on this topic (in response to matthew rathel from today's paper; if you aren't in a bad mood, this will put you in one, or so i hope) doesn't get published, i will need to overthrow the red and black's staff and take over as editor. so hopefully you'll be reading more from me on this topic.
4. I don't want to hug trees. I don't want to simply stop the use of modern machinery. I don't want to grant a squirrel the same rights as I have, or tell everyone that the practice of eating meat is sending you straight to hell. What I DO want is for everyone to look around and realize our planet is going to shit, and recognize that we can't keep going at the destructive pace we have set and not have it come back and bite us in the ass. Do we really need to wait until our air is unbreathable, our water is undrinkable, and our soil is unfarmable to realize that we can't get away with totally abusing our environment?
5. On that same note - DON'T DRILL IN THE ALASKAN NATIONAL WILDLIFE RESERVE. I will soon post emails and addresses for representatives and senators; I plan on writing letters, and I hope you will too. A bill is coming up that, if passed, will undoubtedly lead to drilling in ANWR. I think it is pathetic that they are willing to sacrifice such a rare and beautiful landscape, the habitat of thousands (roughly 200 species, most of them with dwindling habitat as it is, many of them with nowhere else to go) for an oil supply that, at best, wouldn't even last us a year. AT BEST. oh, and don't forget that the area is home to indigenous peoples whose lifestyles (ie their rituals, ie their religion) will be destroyed if you ruin the land and its animals. yeah whatever, fuckin indians, let's rape their culture some more, america seems to be pretty good at that.
6. If you are tired of HEARING about the disaster surrounding Katrina, just imagine how tired people from the Gulf area are of LIVING it.
I'm spent. I'll probably think of something else to rant about later in the day.
