Unfortunate news on the jobhunting front

Rob did not get the Thomson-West job. They had asked him to send them some information they needed to evaluate his application. He got it to them the day before the deadline they'd given him, only to learn they'd decided they had enough candidates and closed the application process two days before the date they'd originally indicated. edited to ( Read more... )

Sorry. If it's any consolation, it's usually not the best qualified candidate that gets the job. The person that gets hired is the one the hiring manager feels will be least risky as an addition. Networking and all that is the usual recommended path. There's some good books out there on that.

I'll mention this to HR here. We're a Thomson company so it can't hurt to send it up the line that pulling the rug out like this is idiotic and they may be robbing themselves of the most qualified candidates for no good reason.
