Movie Night

They'd scraped together quite the little feast - no popcorn, sadly, but some leakage in the living quarters earlier on had led to the discovery of an unopened packet of corn chips in Corporal Caffey's room, and the young linguist had been 'persuaded' to give it up for the good of the masses. There was also a bowl of what looked and tasted rather ( Read more... )

Elise sighed from where she sat in the middle of the couch in front of the viewing console; how she'd managed to grab such a prime piece of movie viewing property was largely due to the fact that she had been pretty much responsible for all the food.

"You're absolutely positive no one brought any movie that did well at the Cannes film festival?" she asked futilely.

Tell inclined her head, looking almost as though she was considering this for a moment. "Well," She said slowly, "Major Sheppard did kindly donate his videotape of the 1984 Eagles/Hurricanes game..." A chorus of groans drowned out her voice. Even in its remarkable symbolism, there was only so many times in so short a period that one could bear to watch Doug Flutie's Hail Mary pass. "Okay, okay!" Tell raised her voice to be heard over the group, arms spread wide in concession of 'defeat'. When the voices had died down, she stepped foward and placed the three DVDs down on the table before them, stating matter-of-factly. "So. Choose."

"What exactly are these movies about?" Adam piped up from where he sat neatly on the floor.

He had missed his opportunity for any civilised seating earlier due to someones misinterpretation of an innocent little joke. That, however, was all in the past now. The pressing matter at the moment was which movie to chose.

"Without that kind of information, someone could try to make an educated decision, say, choosing the comedy over the sci-fi, when the storyline of the sci-fi could be a lot better than that of the comedy." Yes, that - in the land of Adam - would be a tragedy.

Tell shot Adam a grin, which may or may not have been partially related to her enjoyment of the fact that she, for once, had the advantage of height over him. "Oh, sci-fis are a scream. Have you seen Signs? Classic comedy. For tonight's selection, though, it's between Star Wars and-" Tell paused then, with a glance from the DVDs on the table to Adam on the floor. "Wait a minute, what's wrong with your legs?"

ooc: Yes, that was a copout. :P I'm finishing a text response essay and I don't think anybody wants to be stuck watching I for Isobel: The Movie. So, yes, anybody should feel welcome to make up the other movies.

"My legs don't take very well to be shoved on the floor." Adam replied, almost bitterly.

His smile took away the effect that any bitterness would have had on his audience.

"So anyway, we've got Star Wars, and -- oh, who brought Pretty Woman?" He looked around at the group accusingly.

"Maybe," Elise suggested, with just a hint of a wicked smirk, "Your legs wouldn't be shoved on the floor if you hadn't made fun of the food."

She shifted her position on the couch to get a better look at the DVDs, which involved her poking the person sitting beneath her until they handed her the DVDs.

"The American President? I thought one of these was supposed to be a comedy."

OOC: Because you can never go wrong with Sorkin references.

Zach, whose shoulder was slightly sore from being poked at, turned to face Elise.

"Well, I've seen it before and I thought it was pretty funny...." He said thoughtfully as took the DVDs from her and put them back on the table.

Kayla had been watching curiously - she had barely any clue what a DVD was or how it worked, but she was determined to understand. She picked up the Star Wars case and surveyed it. Resulted in an utterly befuddled look appearing on her slight features.

"What ...?"

Hearing Kayla's too-confused-to-finish-(or even begin)-a sentence tone, Adam turned excitedly to the others.

"Let's watch Star Wars!"

"Let's not and say we did!" Elise replied with fake enthusiasm.

Tell gave Elise an admonishing look. "Oh, come on, you can't diss Star Wars! Well," She then amended after a second's thought, "Okay, so really you can, but only with the greatest level of fondness."

"It's not that I don't have a fondness for Star Wars because I do; I have the utmost affection for the silly saga!" Elise protested valiantly.
"It's just that I don't think anyone's first experience with movies," a hard to miss glance was directed at Kayla here, "should be Star Wars. Still if that's what everyone wants...."
In her head that sentence went on to include, 'fine, because at least there's Han Solo.'

There was a sort of grumble from those around which sounded a lot like a negative response to the prospect of watching Star Wars, but of course Adam didn't hear this.

"Yes, good-o!" He smiled, attracting glares from those around him. "I think it would be quite interesting for the girl," he smiled charmingly at Kalya. "She'd be able to see the ideas that our race came up with years before we had the ability to really achieve anything like it in real life, and besides, the special effects are quite something. Wittnessing the wonderful technology our planet has to offer - if only in movies - is quite possibly more important than seeing how soppy script writers can get."

He sent a rather disgusted look in the direction of the other two videos.

"But, I know, I know," he added quickly, "that The American President supplies a slightly real insight into politics and so forth. Doesn't stop it from being soppy, however."

"You are rambling."

Having been in many conversations with Donovan, Kayla had experienced so many occasions where he went on and on to a point that she wondered if any of what he was saying actually mattered. On questioning him, the Brit had informed her that he had a habit of rambling on, and if he ever did it, could she please point it out to him and perhaps he would stop.

Adam sent an appriciative nod in Kayla's direction.

"Thank you." He said. "And ... I will attempt to stop talking now ..."

The way he shut his mouth then suggested to most around him that he was, indeed, trying very hard not to talk.

"Gees, don't hurt yourself, Donovan."

Tim hadn't been there very long; just long enough to hear Adam's remark about not talking and to see his facial expression when he tried to do so.

"So ..." he looked around at the scene before him, "what're you guys up to?"
