Walking along campus on this 39 degree day, I was people watching. The wind is blowing, the sky is dismally grey, and there is a hint of rain in the air. It's freezing!
I had time to people watch because I was warm with my hat and winter coat. In fact, inside my jacket was a little pocket of the inside of a building: nice, 75 degrees, and no wind around.
There was a pair of Japanese girls walking in front of me wearing fitted jackets, hats, tight jeans, those really thin gloves, and maybe a thin shirt or two under the jacket. I wondered if they were warm. They didn't appear to be shivering... but those girls two peaked my interest. I started watching others around me.
There were several more girls around me who chose fashion over warmth. They sported exposed skin. They wore flimsy material. There was no coat in sight. Of course, the grimace they wore, the chattering teeth, or perhaps the tight lipped expression served as the perfect accoutrement to the outfit..
Observing the rest of the crowd, those who were dressed like me were laughing and making jokes with their friends. They were going about their daily business... hmmm. Shouldn't there be some kind of natural selection going on? I'll be interested to continue my observation as the winter progresses.
