I was waiting all day to see what my old newspaper would have on the accident. Don't have many more details, but I do know the Red Cross message got through to Shannon's dad. From what I was told he's taking it hard.
Collision on Ala. Hwy. 169 claims one life, injures anotherOpelika-Auburn News Staff report

One driver is dead and another injured after a head-on collision on Alabama Highway 169, just north of the Opelika city limits, Monday afternoon.
According to a release from Opelika police Capt. Allan Elkins, officers responded to an accident with injuries around 12:30 p.m. and found a 2001 Oldsmobile Silhouette and 2005 Jeep Wrangler to have been involved in a head-on crash in the north bound lane.
At the time of the accident, police say the Jeep was traveling north in the north bound lane while the van was traveling south in the north bound lane.
The driver of the van was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner Charlotte Patterson at 12:45 p.m. The driver of the Jeep was transported to East Alabama Medical Center.
The cause of the accident is under investigation by the Opelika police. The names of the parties involved are being withheld, pending notification of next of kin, the release states.
