Happy New Year!

1. Yuletide

I was very excited for my first Yuletide, and it was awesome. chase_acow wrote me an amazing Ten Inch Hero story, showing Boaz's transformation into Priestly, with cameos from practically every member of the cast. Plus she included some hilarious T-shirts. Exactly what I wanted. Sarcasm. It's just one of the services Priestly offers. .

And now that authors have been revealed (well, I'm a couple of days late on that too) I wrote Closed Position: the Fighting Polka for wasurerareta. I'd actually signed up to write for The Phantom Tollbooth, but her request for Six String Samurai was so interesting that I watched the movie, and I can't recommend it enough. Surreal and funny and awesome.

2. RL

Just got back from a family vacation to Israel and Jordan, which was pretty interesting but not at all relaxing. I don't really get to see my cousins much, since they live in a different province, so it was nice to hang out with them for basically two weeks solid, though by the end, of course, I was ready to go home and seal the doors. My teenie brother didn't bother to bring a razor and grew a pathetic mustache and the most amazingly patchy beard. Not a good look for the pictures. Closest we came to Gaza was about twenty miles away, but everyone was a bit nervous and I came home to lots of messages asking if I was dead. Our poor tour guide has three daughters in the army, and two of them have boyfriends deployed to Gaza, so he was a bit distracted for the last few days. What a mess.

Anyways, back to university tonight on the overnight bus. I have an awful housemate who's off to Beijing for a semester, so I'm meeting the subletter tomorrow morning. His name is Rob, he's 24 and a philosophy student returning to school, and that is all I know. Here's hoping he's awesome, as it'll be just me and him for a week before my other roommate returns. Maybe we'll bond.

3. New Year's!

Was fun. Went to a party with some high school friends. It's actually kind of nice because no one's kept in touch and we're not really too invested in the friendships, so it's very low stress, or at least it was until the party host broke his own window. What a moron. I spent half an hour finding painter's tape and bubble wrap to insulate the window and then left him to dread his parents' wrath.

No resolutions, really, except to maybe get over being nervous about it and comment more. And post a little about my day-to-day instead of just fic. Happy New Year's to my flist!
