Unable to get Plan 9 and Minix on VB

Jul 17, 2010 08:23

Considering that every time I installed Plan 9 it ended up messing up the system badly, I decided to go easy on the stable system and try it on Virtual box. Unfortunately neither Plan 9 nor Minix could be installed on the VirtualBox 3.2.6. Minix though reports of having installation guidelines for VirtualBox 3.1.x so either I need to downgrade or need to see if there are any other modes of installations possible.

Reason for doing this? There seems to be a continued divide between Academia and Industry. Industry continues to follow engineering principles, productions and operations while Academia continues to fiddle around with ideas. The bridge between the two seemingly is shaky and not all academic activities seems to have adopter in Industry. While Industry still shows respect to Academia by accepting people coming out of academia, unfortunately academia seems to devalue the industry ways of working. Is it just my feeling or the intellects of both side also believe same (the hindu caste based divide (vaishya - applicable to industry, brahmin - academia) is between the two)? Academia continues to boast itself for the R & D (upper class in caste terms) and Industry continues to milk money (upper class in economic terms) :P

Wondering where things fall apart for ideas that were considered good and debated by many. These thoughts were revisited during one of the low powered but longer running meeting of yesterday. As usual there were too many talkers than takers... heh heh

log, wondering
